We stayed for one night as we were passing through Kyoto. The staff was very helpful with supplying information (knew very good English). The room was clean and small (regular in size for budget hotels). I will definitely stay here again.

Stayed over 4 nights at Hotel Gimmond after reading many reviews from various sources. Rooms were specious and clean. The front desk staff were extremely helpful. We had no problem communicating to the regular full time staff members at reception in english. Their recommendation for restaurants around the area and other sites were very helpful during our stay.

Location is a very short walk from the nearest train station.

When in Kyoto, will definitely stay here again on our next visit to the region.

Out of all the places we stayed in Japan, this is the only one we seem to have some reservations about. Location is great, very close to everything and certainly the metro-2 minute walk. And still manages to be a quiet area. Everyone was polite at reception. The room was fine, small but it wasn't a problem for us as we had small bags. Breakfast - you have choice of japanese and american. If you go japanese you'll have no problem as it seems most people don't go for this option so the restaurant was practically empty. However on our last day we decided to go for the american breakfast, we were there for opening as we had to catch an early train and unfortunatelly we could not have breakfast because the room was full. Although you pay extra for breakfast you don't seem to be able to get a refund if you are not able to have your breakfast. This did leave a little bit of a bad taste considering it was the most expensive hotel we had booked in japan. Nowhere elese we a problem when going for breakfast at any time of the day. Otherwise everything else was fine.

Expect to pay more when in Kyoto. This hotel is really budget but adequate for short stays. Staff are friendly and helpful but the rooms are in need of some serious updating. Old fashion accessories & decor. Free wifi in room which was a plus. The walls are paper thin though. Location wise is okay - very close to train stop. Like i said..keep it short and you'll get simple with this hotel.

Room Tip: Go to the rooftop to get amazing views! Great restaurants on the side streets.

Kyoto is just perfection. Everyone who plans to visit Japan should have a few days to soak in the beauty of Kyoto. It's a rather expensive city compared to Osaka, but fret not, as there are many affordable options available. Hotel Gimmond is one of those options. It's great value for money as the neighbourhood is great. It's a lot quieter than most hotels in Japan, close to nishiki market and pontocho alley (must-visits in my opinion), lots of food and convenience stores nearby, and it's a very, very close walk to the subway (which easily connects to all the other major stations). The rooms are very tiny though, so be prepared to sacrifice space. I suggest using travel/packing cubes so you can just keep your luggage inside the closet and place the cubes outside. We had a great time.

It was our first time in Japan so we really took the time to research on hotels that would give us the most affordable price but quality service. Hotel Gimmond did not disappoint!

It is 3-5 mins. away from the Karasumaoike subway station just two stops away from the main Kyoto station. The rooms are small but enough for 2. The bathroom which I am very particular of was complete with everything we needed and it was sooooo clean! it was the first time I did not use the toiletries I bring with me in travel because they had everything I needed for a great bath from a long day.

They have English speaking hotel personnels too! All in all the best part of this hotel is really its location. Definitely recommend it!

I shared a room with a friend. The room and bathroom we're quiet small. There was no room on the floor to open our luggage so we had to always carry our heavy luggage onto the bed to open it. Location wise it took us 10-15 to walk to the main shopping malls, markets and restaurants. Overall it was clean and staffs were friendly.
