While popular with Japanese tourists the multi-temple Nanzen-ji complex doesn't seem overly crowded, even in peak leaf season.
While the separate entry fee policy for the various temples and gardens can add up, the Hojo building and its associated Zen garden is definitely worth forking out for. It is wonderful sitting in the sun on the verandah contemplating the garden. It would be even better if they turned off the canned music loop!
The leaf colour in the trees in and around the temple complex were stunning!
