“Better than expected”
Reviewed April 5, 2014 via mobile

I booked late, during Sakura. This hotel was the last with availability (for under $500/night). I expected a dump. In fact, the lobby is nothing to write home about, and the room was plain: the bathroom seemed to have been put into the room like it was a stand-alone module, not built in... But it was clean and fairly bright, the bed was comfortable, and being across the street from the train station was a lot more convenient than I had expected it to be!
I knew it was close to the station, but when I asked a cab driver to take us there, he pointed at it and said "you're only going there".
The station has nice restaurants and shops. The shrines and temples are sufficiently distributed around Kyoto such that there is no obvious place to stay to be close to them all.
I was really pleased with the New Miyako.

the hotel was conveniently located, near subway shops and restaurants. The Hotel has a lovely reasonably priced gift shop. The rooms are nice although our room overlooked the main road so slightly noisy. wonderful overall.

Room Tip: ask for non smoking if you want one also not on the main road.

This is not the best hotel I stayed in, but was appropriately priced

The rooms were maintained well during the day by hotel staff. The facilities were good.

I believe all hotel rooms should offer more than a single cup serving of coffee. Unlimited, nah, but definitely more.

I also wish there was more room at the window to enjoy the little view available.

I stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour to Japan. This is a lovely hotel. Rooms are spacious, clean, free WIFI, CNN on TV, tasty buffet breakfast with wide choice, the Concierge speaks good English and is very helpful. I didn't fully explore the hotel but they have a nice gift shop downstairs that also sells drinks and snacks.

The hotel is across the road from Kyoto station which has some great restaurants and shops. See my separate review for a place in the station that makes Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake). I would recommend eating out as the hotel dinner prices seemed a little steep.

I would definitely stay here again and I loved Kyoto.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights with our two elementary school age children on our recent visit to Kyoto. It was a great experience in every respect. The hotel is right across the street from Kyoto station, so it is super easy to get to the subway or other trains to outlying areas. There are also tons of shops and restaurants in Kyoto station that are very accessible. On our last day, we didn't even need a taxi to get to the train, we just walked across the street with our luggage. The room was very spacious, with four beds, non-smoking and two bathrooms. The breakfast was a great buffet spread, and included with the room price. The kids loved the vending machine room too. Everything was clean and the service was perfect. We have no complaints at all and would definitely highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Kyoto.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room for four if you have 2 children and you can get 4 twin beds all lined up.

The hotel looks old on the outside but it's new and clean inside.Service was good, breakfast ok. Did not try the restaurants of the hotel. The train is across the street with the mega mall under ground. don't miss Gion neighborhood. They say to be there around 5 pm to catch a geisha. We say them at 3pm, 4 pm. There is a great kobe restaurant in the main road, basement level ,on the right side of the road(when you get of the train) can not remember the name. Also don't miss Meiji Jingu, Kiyomizu Temple, nijo castle

We got the premium floor rooms and it was clean, spacious, and accessible.

This place is beside the aeon mall, and kyoto station which was nice for us because of shopping. You can conveniently get a taxi cab across the street.

Food was decent. We got vouchers which allowed access to all 3 restos.

For a tourist starting place, this is a good bet.
