We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights with our two elementary school age children on our recent visit to Kyoto. It was a great experience in every respect. The hotel is right across the street from Kyoto station, so it is super easy to get to the subway or other trains to outlying areas. There are also tons of shops and restaurants in Kyoto station that are very accessible. On our last day, we didn't even need a taxi to get to the train, we just walked across the street with our luggage. The room was very spacious, with four beds, non-smoking and two bathrooms. The breakfast was a great buffet spread, and included with the room price. The kids loved the vending machine room too. Everything was clean and the service was perfect. We have no complaints at all and would definitely highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Kyoto.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room for four if you have 2 children and you can get 4 twin beds all lined up.

The hotel looks old on the outside but it's new and clean inside.Service was good, breakfast ok. Did not try the restaurants of the hotel. The train is across the street with the mega mall under ground. don't miss Gion neighborhood. They say to be there around 5 pm to catch a geisha. We say them at 3pm, 4 pm. There is a great kobe restaurant in the main road, basement level ,on the right side of the road(when you get of the train) can not remember the name. Also don't miss Meiji Jingu, Kiyomizu Temple, nijo castle

We got the premium floor rooms and it was clean, spacious, and accessible.

This place is beside the aeon mall, and kyoto station which was nice for us because of shopping. You can conveniently get a taxi cab across the street.

Food was decent. We got vouchers which allowed access to all 3 restos.

For a tourist starting place, this is a good bet.

Pros:
Premium floor rooms are nice and quite spacious for Japan.
Service is really excellent.
Convenient access to the Shinkansen and subway station.
Proximity to Shinkansen also means you hear every single train depart and arrive from the station. Thankfully, there are no trains past midnight but if you plan to sleep early this might a problem.

Cons:
Really large hotel means there are busloads of tourists arriving at a time, no personal feel or touch
The beds and pillows are not very comfortable
Most importantly the location really isn't ideal. Apart from Kyoto station (which is essentially a huge mall) there's not much around here. You should really try and stay as close to Gion as possible as this is the most beautiful part of town, or if not at least stay downtown which has lots of nicer restaurants and bars.

Because of the location I don't really recommend this, but if you like the location then the hotel isn't a bad option if you find a good price, but make sure you get a premium floor room!

Room Tip: Get a premium floor room, and try to be as far as the train station as possible so you don't hear the sounds of the trains.

The location of the hotel is excellent - walk out of Kyoto station and the hotel is across the road. The hotel is quite large and does show its age - carpets are stained and some of the walls could do with repainting. The room was fairly compact with very little additional space. The 'closet' was a nook in the wall. Bathroom was equally small. Room was clean, but the bed was very firm and even uncomfortable in some areas. Breakfast was adequate, catering mostly to Japanese taste, as could be expected. Location and price would be the main factors for choosing this hotel.
