Hotel New Miyako is lcoated across the Kyoto Rail Station. This is also where the bus depot is. Price-wise it is very reasonable. While I did not have the chance to experience a lot of the service in hotel, I was left with a good impression. Check in and check out was a breeze!

We stayed at the New Miyako Hotel from 15-16 Jan 2014.
This hotel is just a short 3-5 min walk from Kyoto Station. Compared to the Tokyo hotel we stayed in a few days earlier, this one was large with 3 king single beds, a small sitting area, small fridge and coffee making facilities. Stay on the 9th or 10th floor in a "premium" room as these ones seem to have more space. The beds are quite firm. The rooms are very clean and tastefully furnished.
The staff are friendly and accommodating. They speak English. They are eager to please and meet any reasonable request for more pillows, etc. Late checkout can be arranged for a small fee. The location, price and size of the rooms make this hotel a winner.

Room Tip: 9th and 10th floors are the premium floors with bigger rooms. They are currently working refurbishi...

This hotel and nice and new. The location is really good. Lots of shops and eating places within walking distance.

It is also close to train station and airport bus services.

The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful too. Enjoyed our stay here!

I stayed 3nights for my recent business trip to Kyoto.
Advantage 1-Location
Just a few minutes walk from JR Kyoto Station
Advantage 2- room size
Our premier room is like 30sqm and bath room is also renovated which many of hotels don't invest money.
Advantage 3-Buffet Donner at Restaurant
Variety of western and Japanese food with all we can drink.

Disadvantage
Overall I really like this hotel and I will stay this hotel again. But I saw a couple of front staffs who never shows smiles. Maybe they are exhausted with a long time working shifts but I think they definitely need mile which make guests much happier with stay!!

I speak little Japanese but found it no problem communicating by email to the hotel prior to arrival notifying them we would be later then expected. Hotel overall was very good, room a bit smaller then what we were used to compared to other Japanese hotels but not a big deal as we didnt go there to stay in the room. The room and hotel very clean, location across from Kyoto station so if you take Haruka from Kansai just walk out the station and you are there. Staff excellent, door man at the door all the time, taxis outside standing by. No convenience store in hotel however there is a room on first floor with vending machines as well as drink vending machines on the room floors with ice machine also very clean. As a Hawaiian tourist i really like my soda with ICE. Lot of other Japanese hotels no ice machine. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the new wing of the hotel. dont expect much view as the hotel is only 5 floors.

Stayed in early April 2013. Room in South Wing was new, spacious and very quiet. The staff was very friendly and professional. With Kyoto Station just across the road, taking JR trains, buses and subway to the various cherry blossom spots and tourist attractions ( and the Haruka to Kansai Airport ) was a breeze. There were many reasonably-priced food outlets in Kyoto Station. Toji Temple was 10 min walk away. Will definitely stay there when visiting Kyoto again to see the autumn colour.

Room Tip: Room in South Wing was new and very quiet.

Location was great- right across from the shinkansen. My husband thought people were screaming in the street due to the whine the electricity makes when the train pulls out. The noise is really faint so he was quite confused. This was quite humorous and I let him think this until the second day of our stay.

Staff was courteous- as expected in Japan, those we encountered were friendly and helpful. The were quite surprised a Western woman spoke Japanese. Knowing some Japanese helps in Kyoto where English isn't as prevalent as in Tokyo.

Decent room- This is where my rating for this hotel falls. The room was dark with a dingy feeling and awkwardly set up where open doors could block your movement between the room, bathroom, and exit. This is where the hotel could do some improving. In their defense, we had just spent the night at a very luxurious hotel in Hakone, so this just didn't measure up.

Cool shops- the basement of the hotel has cute shops with all sorts of snacks, knick-knacks and touristy things to buy.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing the station are quieter
