“Very good hotel in a very convenient location.”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

Almost at the end of our Japan tour we arrived to Kyoto and spend 3 days at the New Miyako Hotel. It is a very large building with several sections that separates the sections and does not make to feel the size. The rooms are big with nice bathrooms and all what is needed. There is a small refrigerator that was very helpful to keep some cold drinks and little food or fruits. We had a room facing the inside area so it was not noisy.
There are several restaurants and breakfast was possible to eat where they had western food, very good, abundant and very pleasant settings.
The staff was very helpful and many spoke English.
Just next door to the hotel there is a large mall with stores and restaurants for every taste. Even the known American chains of Mac Donalds, Kentuky, etc.
It is so close to the large Kyoto train station makes this hotel an ideal location. The train station building called "The cube", is a fantastic modern building, almost as an art display.

We stayed 3 nights. Room was large, bright, and comfortable. Hotel has three Vern nice restaurants, friendly staff and a great location across the street from the train station. The train station is not just a station but a large shopping and dining complex in the heart of the downtown area. Get off the bullet train from Tokyo, walk across the street and there you are. The station is the transit hub for bullet trains, local trains, and tourist busses. If we go to Kyoto again this is where well stay!,

The hotel is located right by the Kyoto train station surrounded by many shops, restaurants and buses. It was also easy and rather cheap to take a taxi / 900 yens from Gion to the hotel. We booked the room about one week before arrival and it coasted 120 euros (150 dollars) without breakfast. When I saw the hotel from outside, I got a little scared. However the inside is luxury, most of the staff speaks English and we felt like in a 5 star hotel. An Room was of a good size, king size bed (we booked superior double room), nice bathroom. In the bathroom we had all what we needed - toothbrush, hairbrush, hairdryer etc.. In the evening we had couple of cocktails at the downstairs bar and they were not good but the drink menu was rather impressive, including a very interesting choice of wine. During the night a little room fridge was making a bit of a noise and also some weird noise was coming out of the bathroom. Due to all those noises I didn't sleep well and I cant give this hotel more than 3 stars. But my husband slept well.

It's wonderful to stay in this hotel. The first room we were assigned was loud for me, almost facing the station on the 5th floor - great for Bullet train pics though. So I went to the reception to ask for a quieter room and I was updated to the 7th floor nicer room and looking inside a lovely yard with fountains. Needless to say all the staff was very polite and helpful, and no tips neither in the hotels nor restaurants - perfect nation, working for their jobs, not tips. It's so amazing to observe that schoolkids of any age go to school with no parents around, same coming back in the dark evenings and taking trains or having meals in the restaurants with no accompanied adults around. What a GREAT NATION! SUPER CLEAN in the hotels and on trains, streets.

Anyway, there are 4 malls around the hotel with a very nice gift shop in the basement of the hotel. 2 malls on the side of the hotel, across a small street with a food court; another shopping place with lots of restaurants at the station, right across the hotel. And there is 11 floors mall
on the station as well.

We spent 3 nights in early Nov. We booked one room, triple bed as we have 2 teens and 1 kid, Location is very good, just across Kyoto Station, opposite side of main entrance. Food & shopping stores nearby. Room is clean but not enough space to put our luggages. No house keeping is inconvenient but we can request changing towels and throwing garbage. Quite pleasant stay we had.

The hotel is big & touristy. We stayed 2 nights with a 4 yo son. The room is spacious for Kyoto standard. The room is clean but dated and old. No house keeping option is unfortunate so good thing we only stayed 2 nights. Location is convenient as it's opposite the Kyoto station and we cannot hear any noise from the station.

We booked a premium floor room with garden view directly on the hotel’s website – our room was on the premium floor but overlooked the car park. Also the air conditioning did not work or rather only heated. Even November this meant the room was uncomfortably hot. When we raised this issue with the hotel we received some unconvincing excuses including that the temperature was set for the floor at a warmish autumn temperature – an obvious lie given the common areas on the floor were cooler than the room and the room air conditioning was blowing out uncomfortably warm heat and warmer heat when you adjusted the temperature up. Clearly the hotel knew there was some problem but we presume were happy to deceive its guests with a list of possible excuses to be used when a guest did not accept an explanation. After much discussion and not at the hotel’s initiative we were offered another room but this time a standard room but of course we were required to pay the same room rate. We refused. Eventually we were offered a superior room in a newer wing where the air con actually worked but the view was of a brick wall. Again there was no rate adjustment. Tired and worn down by the front desk’s unfriendly, unconcerned attitude [and it was late] we accepted but in hindsight should have left the hotel and found alternate accommodation nearby. We have stayed in Japan and Kyoto a lot and truly this is the worst hotel experience ever. The only good thing about the hotel is it is convenient to the main JR station. Breakfast buffet was fairly ordinary. Rooms when the air con works are fairly standard. The hotel is quite busy obviously receiving a lot of tour groups but really there is little to recommend it. There are quite a number of other hotels nearby which I am sure better reflect Japanese hospitality. After our experience, we have no intention of coming within 100 metres of this place ever again.
