“Nice and cheap, centrally located hotel.”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

Small but clean, comfortable and nice rooms. "Comfortable" means that everything you need is present - water cooker, free towels, bath with bath tub, enough electrical sockets (110V !) and cost-free adapters, TV, laundry racket. Because of the limited space, it's never really "comfortable" in Japan, from the point of view of Non-Japanese people. We visited several hotels in Japan and now we know, that you have to pay much higher prices for bigger rooms even in small villages. The location is perfect. Main station is very close. The rooms are perfectly silent. Every room provides a big self-made booklet with numerous good tips for cheap and nice restaurants and locations close to the hotel. The staff speaks a very good English and is very helpful, flexible and friendly. The common room is big, clean and nice with a small Zen garden (probably much nicer during summer time), Japanese style zone, hot water + tea + coffee for free. We were there for 5 days during autumn time, visited several locations in Kyoto and environment, lived for three days in Japanese style twin room and for the rest of time in a standard double room. We had a very good time. Thank you very much!

Room Tip: Choose the Japanese style rooms. They are a bit bigger and better to sleep.

This hostel is excellent value and provided us with a great base to explore Kyoto, Kansai and also daytrip to Hiroshima. Very helpful staff with excellent english; great atmosphere, good facilities (including washer and dryer - really handy when travelling with a kid). we stayed in a quiet cosy traditional style room with own bath and toilet which was great for our family. Good kitchen including free tea and coffee. friendly communal dining space/living room gave us chance to chat and share experiences with other guests. Gorgeous bakery round the corner from tour club made a perfect start to the day. Also plenty of eating places very nearby though many not suitable for kids due to extensive smoking areas in most restaurants. Easy walk from station. Highly recommended. We will stay here next time. Thank you to Tosh and Hide for all your help and kindness. See you again!

I loved staying at Tour Club. The excellent staff is very nice and friendly and always like to help. Overall there is a cosy atmosphere and I slept perfectly in their beds. It is very clean and is near to Kyoto station with a very good infrastructure. I was sad to leave and I can definitely recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: all rooms ware nice!

I stayed here in the 4-person dorm with a friend. It is a great hostel location-wide, small and fairly old (not as new as Ks House). But it is overall fairly clean, note there is a curfew and that they do not really encourage you to hang around during the day while they clean.

The rooms may be quite small, as well as the common area, but they convey a feeling of calm. The rooms have very big lockers, you can fit a big bagpack in it with no problem. The common area, with its japenese style room (tatami and low tables) is a perfect spot to debrief with other backpackers. The staff is always helpful if you need information, or just a nice chat over Japan or the city of Kyoto. Free coffee, tea and even sake are a plus, as well as the bathroom with bath, a perfect way to decontract after a full day walking between the many wonderful temples of the city.

They give you a blue folder when you check in. It has all the info a traveller could need. Bakery, supermarket, which bus to take where, bars, restaurants, day trips, ideas for itineraries, you name it! The staff are very helpful. One of them (the samurai) helped us wear the traditional clothing. :-)

Excellent location, low price makes this ideal for Kyoto visit.
