“Nice Location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is located in a quiet suburb in the north of Kyoto. Kyoto is very easy to reach via clean and easy to understand subway-system or busses. The station is only a few minutes walk. The hotel is clean, unspectacular in its interior design, and has large rooms for a Japanese hotel. Staff speak very little English, the breakfast is ok, but not great. I would stay there again, if I want to be away from the noises and the dust of the city.

Looks and feels like a 5-star hotel. Acceptable but without much flavor. Remote location at end of subway line. Directions hotel/subway are clear and well-marked to get from subway to hotel (about a 10-minute walk through a tunnel/park setting). (I thought the directions based on Google Maps could have been confusing.) Grocery store nearby – leave subway by a different exit to find it. I think the hotel exit is #4 and the grocery is #3. This hotel lacks nothing but you should try for a generous discount on the pricing.

Room Tip: 6th floor randomly assigned and was fine

We stayed at the Grand Prince hotel Kyoto 2 weeks ago and enjoyed every minute! Very clean, spacious rooms, very helpful staff. And the price was a really fair.
I was afraid of the walk from the Metro but found out its a 1 min walk - very easy and comfortable.
The two downsides:
1. hotel restaurants are VERY expensive and there is nothing else nearby. eat before you return to the hotel...
2. WIFI at the room had very low reception and there is no solution to it (local routers, etc.)

Room Tip: All rooms face tree view - all are cool!

The Grand Prince Hotel is an exception for many reasons, none of which are positive.

I would like to say that our experience in this hotel barely rates two stars. In fact, the only reason we didn't rate it one is because the staff is so kind they deserve at least a star. That being said, this does not excuse the downsides of this hotel.

To begin with, it took us an inordinate amount of time to get in to the room. We arrived at 11 am from Osaka and spent three hours in the lobby with no early check in available. Regardless of the fact that the hotel was nowhere near maximum capacity. In this time, it took over an hour to arrange any kind of tour because the concierge was on vacation. In addition, it took another 20 minutes to convince the staff to allow us to use their wheelchair outside because of "liability issues."

Once in the room, we found that tea and coffee, free in most hotels the world over, costs over 300 yen at this hotel. It should be noted, to their credit, the room was large and clean.

Dinner was absolutely awful. They had either a buffet at 3700 yen or some unedible "snacks" like curry and sandwiches. In short, the café (which is the only nearby) left much to be desired and could not be had after 20h50, as they close at 21h. Room service provides two choices for dinner. Sandwiches (1,800) or curry (2,800).

Kyoto is a big city and your money + time is much better spent elsewhere. A three star hotel and most smaller boutique hotels are a world above this one. STAY AWAY!!!

Polite and gracious hosts. Excellent and unobtrusive room service. Comfortable rooms and bathrooms. Good food at room service as well as at the restaurants. Just across the road from the Kyoto International Conference Center. Subway station close by.

Okay, this place was not cheap but for Japan, it was the largest room I encountered. The hotel was comfortable and the staff very pleasant. It was at the end of the subway, so it was easy to navigate once you really got the lay of the land. They have fast food nearby (I know, why travel all the way to Japan for McDonald's - ask my son......) The staff were very professional and pleasant. Yes, I would return any time I return to Kyoto.

This was my first experience of a hotel, and there was nothing to fault with it as such, however, saying that it was starting to look ages, and could do with some new fresh colours to brighten it up.

Location of the hotel for central Kyoto is ok if you are happy to commute on the subway.

The rooms at the property are located on multiple floors in a doughnut shape. If you want a room with a nice view, it would be worth specifying when booking, as my room had a grass verge right outside the window. Nicer than some concrete jungles, but not exactly inspiring either.
