“Excellent Kobe Beef”
Reviewed July 23, 2014 via mobile

The cool thing about this place is that the chef brought out what seem to be a certificate of authentication or some type of pedigree in Japanese for the steak we ordered.

Pecked around the appetizer they bring out first but the most important entree, the Kobe steak, literally melts in your mouth.

Best steak I've had!

I'll include several pictures.

“Fantastic teppanyaki steak”
Reviewed July 18, 2014

On the second floor, with a picture window behind the cooks that frames green treetops, and about 20 seats around the cooktops. We got the 100g teppanyaki dinner and it was delicious. The steak was lean and cooked perfectly. It came with a salad with cooked fish in it, then a potato soup that was tasty but a bit bland, then a cold steak appetizer with a drizzle of ginger dressing. The steak was served with small pieces of grilled zucchini, eggplant, onion, garlic, and on the side small dishes with corn niblets and a mashed potato patty. Sauces were soy sauce and a bowl with pureed radish with miso, plus mounds of salt and wasabi on the main plate. After you finish they offer rice, and we made the mistake of declining, thinking it was just a bowl of white rice. We watched them prepare a fabulous looking fried rice for others, followed by soup. For dessert they served a small cake with a caramel topping and green tea ice cream, which was delicious. This was one of our best meals in Japan!

“Enjoyable experience!”
Reviewed June 6, 2014

Mikaku is famous for its Teppanyaki made with high-grade Kobe beef. We were a party of 5 and we chose the $100 fixed menu (per person) for 100 g of Kobe beef (a choice of tenderloin or sirloin). Both were excellent and practically melt in your mouth. The fixed menu consists of soup, a green salad with a few slices of beef, beef sushi seared with a blow torch just before serving, vegetables, baked potato, steamed rice with dry beef flakes and green tea ice cream for dessert. 3 of us opted for the garlic-onion fried rice for an extra $10. It's worth it. We had a wonderful time and the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

“Teppanyaki Kobe Beef at its best!”
Reviewed May 19, 2014

You have a choice of Kobe beef to choose from: Tenderloin or Sirloin. If i remember correctly, they also recommended their signature style of cooking which is the Oil Yaki style. Depending on how hungry you are...we chose 250 grams each. Do check out my photos of the steaks we ordered..it will get your appetite going.. And to accompany our dinner we had their "family owned and brewed" chilled Saki which was so nice that we bought a carton of 1.8 litre bottles from them! And lastly, do request for the garlic and onion fried rice with "kobe fat" at the end to finish off your dinner...its really that good and its worth the extra calories! ボナペティ (bon appetit !)

“Quality tepenyaki in a lovely area of Kyoto”
Reviewed April 19, 2014 via mobile

Don't eat lunch if you are going here for dinner ! Excellent Kobe beef and great service. The set menu includes a salad - with roast beef, a soup, sublime thin wafers of Kobe beef and sushi rice, grilled vegetables, mashed potato served croquette style and of course the beef ! 100 g should be enough unless you are really hungry. The choices you make are essentially gram weight and sirloin or tenderloin. There is also the option of the garlic fried rice. This is very very strong and unless you love garlic and are still hungry, the steamed rice is perfect. It gets hot and as the counter seating is at the grill, best to wear something light or layers and something you can easily wash, otherwise you might be carrying the aroma the next day !
