“Pleasantly surprised”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

I did not want to write a review for this hotel,
for fear it will become harder and harder to book!

The hotel is brand spanking new, the decor is nice, the staff is friendly and helpful.
The location is awesome, steps from the most happening part of town, yet it's relatively quiet.
There's a cool Japan contemporary craft shop outside the lobby, nice bakery cafe on one side and a mini-mart on the other.
Close proximity to the river, and the bus stops.
Staff who speaks English, plus a gaijin who speaks English and Japanese (I don't know if he speaks anything else or not)
The rooms are not big but I know better than to expect spacious rooms in Japan.
Didn't get a chance to try any of the restaurants.
Honestly can't think of any reason why I wouldn't stay here again.

p.s. In the bathroom you'll find Mikimoto Shampoo & Body Soap. Yes, the pearl company Mikimoto. Another plus.

We were 3 retired couples and we arrived to Kyoto after a stay in Tokyo. The Royal Park really exceeded our expectations about location, staff and service. Surrounding by shops, restaurants of all kinds, near by the river, with a lot of bus and metro lines in the near neighbourhood, it cannot be better. Even the small double room are big enough with a king size bed. There is Wifi in the rooms too. The staff was very helpful and always kindly assisted us to set up our itineraries by bus to visit the Kyoto famous landmarks. Breakfast at the hotel is quite expensive, about US$25/person, but a bakery with sitting places next to the hotel offered a good choice of bread and pastry and also full breakfast at reasonable prices.

Room Tip: best value is to take a twin or small double room.

We were in Kyoto and booked the triple room for one night. Location is very good, right in the middle of shops and restaurants - though if you did not have a car, not sure how convenient it us. We got there around 11am and the room was not ready until about 1pm which was fine since check in was not till 2pm. No parking with the hotel, so you will have to park at one of the ample slots available nearby.

The room itself was of good size. Even with three beds it was not cramped. It came with night shirts ( not robes, quite an interesting concept). The shower products were not individual size but more like regular containers refilled daily - but of good quality.

The breakfast was $21 per person, on the steeper size, however there is a very good bakery right next to the hotel which was perfect.

Upscale hotel, this was a good choice and would stay there in a heartbeat.

The hotel is located in a perfect spot of Kyoto next to the river. Easy access to all temples and tourist attractions. Excellent room product versus price. A lovely boulangerie is located in the same building than the hotel which really help for late breakfast. Truly recommend this hotel.

Excellent hotel! Very well decorated and clean. The location is great - next to gion and the center. The staff is very helpful and kind. The rooms are very equiped and well designed. A bit expensive but worth any yen! The only bad thing is that the breakfast is expensive, so we ate outside (but there are many options nearby).

This Kyoto hotel is very good and is in a convenient location. The rooms are small--as is the case in many Japanese inns--but comfortable and well-maintained. There's also an efficient, courteous staff and the general manager--an American man who has lived in Japan for some years--is particularly helpful.

Room Tip: We had a room on the side of the hotel facing the main avenue but weren't bothered by traffic no...
