We had a lovely stay at the Anteroom, the decoration in the hotel (rooms and public areas) are great and a joy for interior interested guests.

The staff was superfriendly and took good care of us.

We had drinks in the bar and they had a great variety of japanese whiskeys among other nice alternativs.

The breakfast was so and so and the location a bit far away from the city centre, but except from that it was very good.

I stayed in a single room for 3 nights. The hotel is very minimalist and has a slight "hipster" quirky vibe, which I enjoyed. The room was a good size with private bathroom, and lots of toiletries. Everything was very clean. Breakfast was great at 1000 yen - lots of food. Hotel is in a reasonable area - about 15 mins walk from Kyoto station and 5 mins from the nearest subway stop. Area felt very safe (for a women traveling on her own!). Hotel staff were unbelievably kind and friendly. There is free bottled water at reception but would have been better if this was stocked in the rooms! The windows in my room had frosted glass - which was a shame as when I opened the window the view was great! I would definitely stay at this hotel again, and would recommend it!

The southern parts of Kyoto are very calm and seem almost remote in comparison to the northern neighbourhoods. There are hardly restaurants anywhere near Hotel Anteroom Kyoto and the surrounding lacks both Kyoto's spiritual vibe and the urban atmosphere you may know from other Japanese cities. This is the main reason for our rather harsh TripAdvisor judgment.

The rooms and main areas are nicely decorated although cleanliness could be improved: One day garbage bags lay around in the aisle for hours, but note that the rooms were always neat. Furthermore, the room size is good, but storage spaces were much too limited.

The service was mixed. Staff members were mostly friendly, but seemed very challenged at times - especially in contact with foreigners not speaking Japanese. We would also suggest daily refill of complimentary water as an improvement.

In the end our impression about Hotel Anteroom was far from perfect - an impression based on mixed feelings.

Easy to get the hotel from Kyoto station by taxi. A cheap car park nearby(800yen/24hrs). There are a supermarket and a bakery in front of the hotel. We stayed at semi-double bed room but space enough for two!

Hotel Anteroom's definitely one of the most value-for-money hotels I've stayed in, especially in Japan. A real steal for its well-maintained amenities and cosy room! I love the design of the hotel lobby, and I'm pretty sure hipsters and photographers would go crazy for this place. The quiet lounge is also a pretty nice place to visit in the evening to have a light drink and relax too! It's a little far from the main Kyoto station but there are buses and other train stations nearby too, so transport shouldn't be a big issue. If you happen to be walking down to Kyoto Station, there's a pretty cool manga store that sells a bunch of old-school mangas and the recent ones as well! Do give it a go if you're an avid reader :) Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Anteroom and would highly recommend it to travelers to Kyoto.
