“Bed bugs!! Ack!”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

I stayed here 1 night beginning of June 2013 in a dorm style room. When I woke up in the morning and turned on the lights, there were bed bugs all over my bed and on the walls. I had to look up what those bugs were because I'd never encountered them before. They were bed bugs! Considering the number of bugs that were clearly visible (the linens were white) it was probably quite an infestation. Needless to say I was completely disgusted, grossed out, not to mention having to deal with the aftermath of being bitten numerous times =(

Even though this hostel was very conveniently located and easy to find, and the staff was friendly, I would never ever stay there again.

Stayed there in January 2012 maybe because it wasn't a high season period I can easily got the room though I booked it 1 month before...don't try to do it in high season period!I tried to booked here again on November 2012 but it already full booked though I booked it 1 month before.
I stayed in female dormitory room in 2nd floor...the room is clean and what I like from hana hostel group is they give space where they placed small book rack and reading lamp.
Staffs are friendly and can speak english well...they are just so nice...since we arrived early morning they let us know the door code so we could take some rest although we haven't check in yet :)
The location is so good...if you travel in Kyoto...bus will be the easiest and cheapest way to do so...
In term of money value...their dorm price is the standard price you still can find cheaper price but with their location and room facility I won't look for others...

This is the PERFECT place to stay especially if you're travelling on a tight budget. We rent the private room with private bathroom, the size of the room is adequate, very clean, the futon is so comfy I had a very good sleep, and the room facility is absolutely perfect for such price. High-speed wifi, fluent english speaking staffs, very friendly and helpful too. They also give you very useful map and bus map of Kyoto, they even sell the bus ticket here. The location is totally strategic, only few minutes walk from Kyoto Station, shopping malls, convenience store, etc.

The facility is very accomodating; new showers, hot water, kitchen well equipped
The room is safe with optional lockers that I did not use because it felt so safe.

excellent location, very closed to the train and buses

the staff is very helpful and accomodating

Room Tip: just get in communication with the people

This was our second stop in Japan and we really enjoyed our time at Kyoto Hana. We booked a Japanese style double and when we arrived there was a sign stating that our room had fresh tatami so it was super clean - just like everything else in the place. The room was a decent size for two people and the futon was mostly comfortable, if just a bit thin.
Our room was close to the dorm rooms but we never heard a peep. There was a family down the hall that was a bit noisy, but it never really bothered us.
The hostel is really close to the JR Kyoto station and we walked to Sanjusangendo temple and Gion from the hostel, though we took the bus everywhere else.
The kitchen was always clean and well stocked with supplies, which is always nice. I noticed that everyone really cleaned up after themselves, which is part of the reason this place is so tidy. The front desk was really helpful and spoke excellent English :) Would recommend and come back!

It's a great-choice hostel if you travel with a tight budget. The price here is very fair. We booked two twin room with own private bathroom and shower room, and it's better than expected. The staffs are all friendly and speak fluent English. You can rent a bike and get lots of helpful tourist information here.

Book earier if you visit Kyoto on a Busy Season.

Room Tip: There are three floors of this hostel and there's NO Elevator. Get your arms prepared for carryi...

Hostels have their pluses, but also their downfalls, especially when they get to be huge, a giant number of beds squashed into a tiny amount of space. Kyoto Hana describes itself as a hybrid inn, which is good because there is actually quite limited dorm-style accommodation. But their dorms are clean, and the beds have ample room for luggage, each with a little shelf, hangars, and power points. They also all have privacy curtains, which eliminates the privacy issue some people have with dorms. Staff are super friendly and very helpful, the wifi is excellent, and everything you hear about the location is true. Couldn't be more convenient for buses, trains, cycling, or walking places.
