I booked the hotel via a Japanese website before the hotel was even opened so I got a good deal. I paid around $45 per night for 2 nights while visiting Kyoto with my boyfriend. I usually do not stay in hotel while in Kyoto (usually at a ryokan), but I decided to try an apartment-hotel. It was super clean and nice because it was just opened for couple days when I stayed there. An added bonus was TV with many American channels. I loved it and will probably stay there again.

I stayed at this hotel for three nights, everything is brand new cause it has been opened at the beginning of 2010. The position is very good,it's just 50 mt from the subway station, McDonald's and Seven-Eleven are within 100 mt. Rooms are big, faced with the japan standard and in the apartmens there's everything you need (hairdryer, iron etc..). The staff speaks a good english and they are very helpful. But let's say that you have to pay everything, for example daily cleaning and breakfast are NOT incuded in the fare, it was a bad surprise to discover that to have the apartment cleaned we had to pay an extra of 20€ per day. Fare seemed to be good but there wasn't any specification regarding rooms cleaning.

Was originally disappointed that I couldn't book a traditional ryokan for my stay - but found the Citadines through trip advisor. It couldn't have been better. Staff were absolutely wonderful; room was comfortable, modern and bright; location was great with bus stops & subway nearby. Absolutely perfect for what we needed, and GREAT value for money. Hotel is about a 10-15minute walk from Kyoto Station straight up Karasuma st, otherwise can take the subway one stop to Gojo station (exit #1) and the hotel is 30meters from the subway. Would absolutely stay there again.

I stayed four nights in Citadines-Kyoto. It is very well located a few feet away from exit # 1, Gojo metro station, line Karasuma, one stop from the JR station. Rooms are very clean, convenient and with all amenities, including cooking gears, iron, slippers and plenty of information concerning places to visit in and around Kyoto. The entrance way to the hotel is unusual: in a relative darkness, you first have to go through a a very well insulated passage with an indoor stone garden. Coming from the busy and noisy street, this creates an atmosphere of quietness and rest before reaching the lobby. Good idea.
If you need a visual rest from visiting temples, shrines, museums and castles, give an hour to Kyoto JR railway station and visit this unique and complex building. It is, in my view, one of the most extra-ordinary (original meaning of the word) railway stations in the world: 11 floors above ground 2 or 3 underground, numerous boutiques and cafés, a gorgeous, cathedral-like main entrance plaza and many places for resting, enjoying the atmosphere or admiring the structure. All that spotless. On the eleventh floor, there is a garden with a fantastic view over Kyoto. There is also an impressive path connecting the two parts of the station at the 11th floor level. The architect who designed this building was an artist.

Really enjoyed our time at Kyoto Citadines. Should point out that this was my third time in japan, i'm a very seasoned business traveler over the years and that on this particular trip that we visited a number of hotels throughout japan over the course of three weeks.

With that backdrop, thought that the hotel was well located, literally seconds from a metro stop but you could walk to either the main station or the main shopping area in 20 mins, temples and other sights relatively easy access as well. The hotel is brand new and the cleanliness of the common areas could not be faulted. The staff were knowledgeable and polite.

As for the room, it has a small kitchen area next to the front door with a small sink, fridge, microwave and hot plate, so you can do some cooking if you so wish (as this is an "apartment hotel" it is not a place that offers room service, there is breakfast for additional cost if you so wish, but we prefer to visit the supermarket or convenience stores that were withing a couple of minutes walk and prepare our own food). The bedroom area is separated from the living area by a screen which can extend 3/4 of the way across the width of the room, giving almost the appearance of a suite. Fortunately, the flat screen tv can slide across the wall to be in front of the bed or the two seater sofa and table that are on the other side of the screen. Bathroom and toilet is typical plastic affair you get in japanese hotels but as opposed to the likes of toyoko inn or comfort inn there is a large sink with an illuminated mirror outside of the bathroom which allows much more space for shaving or applying make up etc.

This hotel isn't in my mind designed to compete with the sheratons and hiltons of this world as it doesn't have the massive facilities they have, but it represents incredible value for money for the mid-range segment, especially when we found comfort inn's elsewhere in japan similarly priced with far less comfortable and convenient facilities. I think that the kyoto citadines is slightly more polished that it is tokyo counterpart but to be honest I would recommend both of them highly.
