“Near Perfect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2010

Decide to register and write a review because they really deserve it. The room is very very clean, tidy, spacious, comfortable, same like Citadines Tokyo, the location is the best, next to Subway station, the price is very value for money, 7/11 just across the road, bus station is 1 minute walk, the staff in Citadines Kyoto is very very friendly, they answer my questions very patiently, they teach us how to take bus in Kyoto, which bus to take, which station to go, etc. You can't find such friendly hotel staff too often.

Highly Recommended to Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can find nothing to fault this hotel and everything to praise. The location is excellent as it is about 10 minutes from Gion/largest dept stores and main centre of kyoto. 600yen if you don't want to walk or 1 min from subway station and main street/buses.

The hotel is very new and everything is excellent and fresh. The room was an ok size. The bathroom excellent. Hair dryer, Iron + board+ Tv + Dvd player + fridge+ microwave+ kettle+ hot ring. The daily clean was excellent.

The staff could not have been more helpful or pleasant and spoke very good english. We looked at some of the other top hotels but based on reviews here and the location plus the price being half of the Hotel Granvia we chose here. We were very glad we did.

The hotel has a very stylish entrance/lobby, and you will be greeted by the friendlies staff. All of the staff we spoke with were fluent in English, and already when we checked in we got lots of good tips for our stay in Kyoto. This is an apartment hotel, and even if the rooms are a little small, the space is used really well, with modern, simple IKEA-ish furniture. The sleeping and living area is separated by a sliding wall, something that worked fine for us as we could watch some TV after our daughter had gone to sleep. The kitchen is simple and has everything you need, and for us it was great for making breakfast and supper for our 19 month old daughter. The location is also great, close to the train station and with lots of shopping, restaurants and shrine/temples within walking distance. We enjoyed just walking the small streets with traditional Japanese houses and small businesses right behind the hotel.

I stayed at Citadines Kyoto at the start of the month for 5 nights. We were very happy with the hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone.
The value for money was fantastic - the place was modern, clean, helpful staff, free in-room internet. It was also great to have cable TV with a couple of English stations which none of any of the hotels we stayed at in Japan had.
The only downside was the hotel was very hard to find - lugging our suitcases from Kyoto station was not a great idea. I would recommend getting a taxi from the station.

Stayed at Citadines Kyoto during a recent biz trip to Japan. Loved the place as everything was brand new and spotlessly clean. Service was excellent and there was a very cheap coin operated laundry service at the basement for those who do not want to bring too much luggage. The kitchen was great and had everything I needed to cook for my 2 year old. For sightseeing in Kyoto, location was great since it was beside Gojo Station.

We stayed at the Citadines for 3 evenings in June 2010. I believe it's still a rather new hotel as the cabby from Kyoto Station had no idea where it was. He dropped us off at the intersection of Gojo Dori & Karasuma Dori. We had to ask at a nearby hotel for instructions. Well, here is the best and cheapest way to get there from Kyoto Station:

Take the train from Kyoto Station to Gojo. Get out and find the Mcdonald's at the intersection. The hotel is about 1 1/2 blocks east of the McDonald's on the same side of the street.

The hotel was terrific. Check-in was super fast. The room had an entire kitchenette complete with stove, microwave, refrigerator, safe. All the furniture was modernist with eames-type chairs and beds. Looked like a scene from a futuristic movie. The hotel smells brand new and the front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. I heard virtually no noise from other guests and had very sound sleep time. Free internet was the topping on the cake as well as complimentary bottled water for the first night.

Location is not nearly as centrally-located as you may expect, but the train station is 2 blocks away. Kyoto is fairly spread out so to get to the main tourist attractions involves a lot of subway to bus to walking transfers. If you only have a few days there, you may want to save yourself the pain and confusion and just take a cab from place to place. Buses require exact change and you may sometimes miss your stop.

There are a lot of cheap eats in the area and a 7-Eleven right across the street for all your grocery needs. Whoever said Japan was expensive to live in never took into account food. It is a far cry from NYC when you can have a hearty lunch or dinner for $25 for 2 people with no tipping accepted.

All in all, the Citadines was a perfect hotel - new, inexpensive, clean, friendly.

Having previously stayed at Citadines Xian and Shanghai previously I had a good idea what to expect. Citadines Kyoto met all my expectations for the four nights we were there. My wife and I got good rates for the self-contained studio apartment when we booked a couple of weeks ahead on a last minute accommodation website.

The room was modern and new - spacious studio room, full kitchen, tv and dvd, dressing gown kimonos, funky lighting and couch made our stay very comfortable and enjoyable.

Staff spoke very good English and were helpful with enquiries.

The Gojo subway station that is located adjacent to the hotel only services a specific area of Kyoto. So we tended to walk about 10-15 minutes to either a convenient bus stop or Kyoto train station. I would say though, that the nature of Kyoto's public transport system means these short walks are inevitable wherever you stay.
