I haven't a great experience with Japanese hotels, nothing really to compare with. We stayed here for ten nights and never felt bad about anything, except for the breakfast. For a start, the breakfast room is located in the basement. So no daylight, and who wants to start the day in the basement.... Secondly, the (continental) breakfast was absolutely tasteless. So don't include it in your reservation. As many visitors already have stated; there's a Fresco supermarket just down the road, a 7-11 across the street. We had breakfast in our room every day after the initial breakfast disappointment in the basement, and it worked perfect sine the rooms have a small kitchen.
Other than that, the room was clean and functional. We didn't ask the staff for much, but when we did they were very helpful. I found the location absolutely great. The hotel i located a 15 minute walk from the railway station (where you'll find the tourist information), and you can easily walk to Gion - for example. The river and the canal is only a few blocks away. We hardly took the bus/underground at all. By the way there's an underground station more or less outside the hotel entrance.
Summing up, I wouldn't mind staying here again. At the same time, I'd probably try and search for a hotel with slightly more atmosphere.

Room Tip: If you need quiet surroundings, ask for the 10th floor not facing the street. We didn't hear a sound....

We stay at Citadines, Kyoto for 4 nights and we like the hotel very much.
1) Location: The location is very close to subways and railway. The are a lot of nice restaurants and shopping places around in walking distances (20-30 minutes walk). There is a 24 hours convenience shop, 100 yen shop and 7-11 shop at very near distance.
2) Staffs: Staffs a friendly, helpful and professional.
3) Room : rooms are clean, comfortable, modern, and equipped with small kitchen.
4) Price : reasonable price.

We had an excellent stay here - the staff were very helpful & friendly. There's a laundry where you can do your own washing & drying which I've recently learnt is somewhat rare in japan and can be expensive if the hotel does it for you instead...

If you're looking for a clean, modern abode in Kyoto, this is a great choice. The staff were super friendly and the hotel provided fantastic information in their room with tips on how to get to each sightseeing spot and the recommended mode of transport to each. They even gave me a map of restaurants nearby, which was really helpful (don't miss the Italian restaurant nearby. It's 1000 yen for a set lunch and really delicious!!)

After a week of travelling in Japan, I was relieved that I got to do laundry in their machines downstairs!

The only downside we had was that the room we were put in was facing a wall, so we didn't get much sunlight. Otherwise, the amenities are perfect for a longer stay since you can hop into a nearby supermarket and then come back to cook on the small stove.

Note: the hotel is also a 10-15 min walk away from the main street Shijo-dori, so be prepared to walk! I stayed in a ryokan in Gion after I checked out and there were many more things around to do, but for modern conveniences you can beat this place!

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor with a view - ours was facing a concrete wall.

We have stayed at this hotel several times and the place continues to be a great value in a great location in Kyoto. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The mini kitchen is a big plus as we typically use the microwave oven and dishes provided. The room size is slightly larger than average than typical Japanese hotels. The hotel provides free WiFi throughout its facility. There is a coin operated laundry room downstairs. There is no exercise room. I have always been able to get receptionists who speak English. The hotel is located conveniently a few blocks from the Kyoto station and also next to the Gojo station of the subway system. There are numerous restaurants and convenience stores in the area and it is waking distance to places like Nishiki market and Gion. Shijo street, where a lot of shopping establishments are located, is also nearby.
Overall, this is a highly recommended hotel with good prices if you are not looking for a full service hotel.
