“Ideal family priced hotel”

Good location. Exceptionally clean room. Ergonomic and well designed room although small like all Japanese hotels. Very helpful staff. Hotel is near restaurants, mini markets, drug stores, pharmacies. I thought I saw a bicycle rental business nearby as well. Won't go wrong...

Room Tip: I think all rooms are the same. I stayed at Citadines Tokyo and the room had the same layout.

Not far from subway, which connecting to majority interested area. This is the biggest room we had throughout the Japan trip but the price is the lowest one :-p... if I have a chance back to Kyoto, will stay at this place again if no substantial price increase of course...

Kyoto is a charming place to explore so we were interested in a convenient, clean and comfortable base from which to catch the various trains and buses. It is certainly clean, tidy, and big enough for a couple with its own small cooking facilities. The stove had one induction hot plate that was hot enough to keep a medium sized pot boiling but we didnt try frying with it. As other reviewers have pointed out, it is close to Gojo station which is only one stop away from Kyoto station so that's a positive.

However, we found that the apartments were out of the way with respect to catching the local buses. There is a bus stop about 100 metres from the hotel, but unfortunately we didn't find the times very reliable. Also, the return bus stop was over 1.5 km up the road as we couldn't find one that dropped us back nearby.

A somewhat minor point also is the Gojo subway stop requires lifting your luggage up several flights of stairs.

These might not be issues for you but they were minor niggles for us as a convenient base to explore from. The facilities, room and service are ok for the price but I gave it one star less for convenience compared to a more central hotel such as Hotel Granvia.

Its location was good as it was directly beside gojo station and the bus station. We stayed there for 3 nights as a family of three. The room had cutlery and stoves. The pros are:good location, helpful staff and quite a big room for a modern hotel. Now,the downside was that they did not close the window properly when doing house keeping. The -2 degrees kyoto night air blew in until we realised it.Other than that,it was a good hotel.

We were recommended to stay, the location is great, just on 1 minute outside Gojo MTR station, excellent ramen shop next door, 24 hour supermarket right next door, hotel rooms are very nicely layout, we stay there for 8 nights while we visited Kyoto, we like the location of the hotel, the receptionists speak a good level of English, so communication wise poses no problems for Foreigners, However, I was highly displeased with one of the female receptionists. While in Kyoto, I have lost my wallets along with Passport, cash and all my credit cards. I had to rush back to the hotel to obtain a copy of the passport, and file plice report for the incident. The receptionist were unhelpful, aloof and very cold, yet, the receptionist at Hyatt Regent Hotel was so helpful that they have spent over two hours with me at the Police station, translated everything, phoned my next Hotel in Wakayama, extended everything that you could ever imagine, yet I did not even stay at the Hyatt Regent Hotel next to 三千院!!!! The cold reception and arrogant, aloof manner of the female receptionist in Citadines Karasume- Gojo is a disgrace, so I think this drawback put this hotel in a very low league due to the one staff encounter.

We stayed here for 5 nights, and for a relatively budget-friendly option, this is excellent. What made this stand out from the usual options was the friendly service, down to small touches such as a birthday message signed by staff members along with a bag of candy. Thank you, Citadines staff, that was an incredibly kind and lovely surprise.

Another plus is that the Citadines is close to Gojo station and a short walk or taxi ride from Kyoto Station (for access to the Shinkansen express to Tokyo). Also, the room was comfortable, clean and excellent value. The bathroom is not very large, and overall room size might prove difficult for a family, but for a couple, it was perfect. We loved our stay and would return.

Room Tip: Even the basic rooms here are very comfy.

Stayed here for 5 nights, before heading off to Osaka and Tokyo (reviews for hotels there to follow...)
Location - Excellent. Just a stone's throw from Gojo station, and within 10-15 minutes from both the Kyoto station and Shijo-dori (the busy shopping street from which you can walk down to Gion and Pontocho). There are also several nice and affordable restaurants within close proximity - just ask the staff for some recommendations.
Staff - Spoke fairly good English, polite and helpful. One reviewer said the staff were like robots, but I didn't have any of those negative experiences. I've definitely been to hotels where staff were more enthusiastic and personable but I've also experienced more aloof, even stuck-up service elsewhere. Based on my own experiences, I'd rate the staff as above average.
Room - Large for a hotel in Japan. Ok, I've only stayed in 5 hotels in Japan (not counting Ryokans) and this was the largest. More than enough room to open two pieces of luggage, with room to spare. Obviously clean, and shower was good. Oh, being an "apart-hotel", it's got a mini-kitchen with microwave, induction stove-top and cutlery and utensils as well.
When we booked this place, it was #2 on TripAdvisor, and we can see why. Strongly recommend it.
