“Small apartment comfortable only for 2”
Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

Stayed at cittadines kyoto for 2 nights recently. Room haa quee bed and sofa bed. Theres little space for anything else including for bags and luggage

The breakfast selection was poor.

Taxi from train station only cost 750 to 800 yen. Worth to take if travelling in 4, bcos the subway will also cost abt the same.

Gojo subway is only abt 100 m from hotel

Staff was ok.

My original plan for a family holiday (2 adults, 2 children aged 8 & 10) in Kyoto was to stay at one of the hotels bordering Kyoto station. Unfortunately, as no rooms were available, we took a chance on this hotel which seemed to be so popular with TA reviewers. I'm glad to say that they were right on so many counts.

We booked two adjacent rooms as we felt this would be more comfortable. Indeed, it was more spacious and I especially liked that each room had a small sitting area which allowed our kids to have their meals properly. The bathroom was small but adequate and came with the expected electrically-warmed toilet seat. Each room was relatively self-sufficient with a microwave oven, a kettle, an electric stove and utensils. A couple of complimentary bottles of water was most welcome but tap water was clean enough to be drunk. We didn't book the breakfast but it was easy enough arranging breakfast in the vicinity of the hotel. While we also didn't actually do any cooking here, I've become a fan of this style of hotel room for its sheer convenience.

Service was polite and efficient generally, with staff never failing to greet us whenever we arrived back. We were too early when we arrived, and the reception staff were happy to tag our luggage until our rooms were ready. We also needed to activate them briefly when one of our sons accidentally found himself locked in the stairway landing.

The hotel was located a few metres from exit 1 of the Gojo subway, just one stop away from Kyoto station. Using this exit does involve climbing a long flight of steps, so those with big or heavy bags would best utilise the elevator which places one on the opposite side of the road to the hotel. Learning the routes of some of the local buses that passed close to the hotel meant we didn't always have to head to Kyoto station. We also counted a number of useful small food options - one each for fried chicken cutlet or hot plate set meals, a more expensive udon place, a curry rice fast food place and an ubiquitous McDonald's - so it wasn't hard to find a place to eat in a hurry. There was also a 7-Eleven across the street, useful for snacks, drinks and even small meals.

So, needless to say, we'd like to come back to this hotel in the future. And considering there was a lot of Kyoto that we didn't see the first time round, it wouldn't be difficult to find a reason to do so.

Room Tip: A room facing the main road affords pleasant views of the hills in the distance on a clear dawn but...

Citadines is located centrally, one subway station away from the train station. We walked to a lot of places and it is also good for transportation. The rooms are nice and large and internet is included. we didn't try the breakfast as it was relatively expensive but otherwise the location is fantastic. The hotel staff was superbly helpful. Totally recommend this place.

Stayed here for 3 nights with family. The property is well located - just next to the subway with couple of restaurants nearby and 7-11 across the street. Rooms were clean and the housekeeping ladies are very friendly, always greeting you in true Japanese style. The same cant be said for the front desk. Simply put, they were professional, just performing their duties like robots - ask them for assistance to call a restaurant (most rest don't still speak English), and they seem to drag their feet doing that. Maybe its Dec and everyone seems to ask these guys questions but you just get a feeling they are not as helpful as what other reviewers puts it. Ask for directions to go to a place and you have to prompt them a few times. There's a friendly gentlemen on the last day we were there but for many on the front desk, just think you are talking to robots and you will do well. Shame as its a really well appointed property.

We booked 2 Studio Twin rooms. They are spacious, clean and convenient. It is right next to bus stop and subway station. It is fully serviced with cooking facilities and microwave. The equipment is very new. There are a few restaurants, McDonalds and 7 Eleven adjacent to the hotel. Free wi-fi in room and coin laundry facility.

Great location for any parts of Kyoto either on foot, for the station or buses. Excellent facilities including a guest laundry. Staff were great with plenty of recommendations and assistance. Soba noodle places two doors away was fantastic. You can get almost anything across the road at the 7-eleven. Highly recommend this place.
