We spent 3 nights at this hotel and found it to be clean, small and very average in general. It has a flashy lobby and reasonably accommodating staff, but just is not worth the price. Despite requesting a non smoking room we did not get one. I would not recommend this hotel.

Room tip: Two larger rooms are featured on the Citadines website for this hotel but it is unlikely you will get these rooms. Be prepared for what in other parts of Asia would be considered a boutique hotel, but the hotel in general is way overpriced for this sort of accommodation.

We stayed in the double room for 4 nights. The location of Citadines is fantastic- less than 100m from a supermarket, pharmacy, 7/11, 100 yen shop, Mcdonalds, several restaurants and not far from a bike rental store. 15 minutes walk to Kyoto station, and about the same to the main street full of shops and restaurants. The subway line was less than 1 minute walk away also. The staff were absolutely wonderful, all speaking English and extremely helpful!! The room itself was very small. We didn't have much space to open two suitcases. The toilet and shower were fantastic. The beds however were very very firm, pillows to fluffy and flattened out. I also felt the quilts were far too warm with no option of blankets for hot sleepers. The TV had some great English channels (National Geographic, Animal Planet, Discovery etc) and the air conditioner and heater were very responsive. We chose Citadines for the kitchen also so we could cook vegetarian food. The fridge was tiny and the kitchen lacked some necessary items such as a spatular, tea-towels and dish drying rack. Overall a very clean and comfortable stay. I would recommend this place to anyone and would stay here again.

I stayed at this place 3 times ( Nov 2011, Nov 2012 2 times) and the services, the value, the cleanliness, the convenience were still can't be beaten. The room was equipped with kitchenette that a plus if you feel like you want to cook your own meal. The place is right next to the exit 1 of the Karasuma subway line or you can walk about 15 mins from Kyoto station. The English speaking staff at the front desk were so friendly and very helpful.

I already having a plan to stay there again next year. It was my favorite hotel in Kansai area so far.

Room tip: Make sure to avoid the room that face (very close) the next building.

This is as great of a spot as other reviews say. Spacious (by Japanese standards), very clean, every possible amenity, fully-stocked kitchen, high-speed internet that actually IS high-speed. We spent 4 days there and loved it. It is a bit pricey, but worth every penny as far as I can tell. Breakfast was not stellar but did the job. They even have a coin washer/dryer in the basement, so you don't have to go anywhere. Neat!

The only minor issue (managers take note!): cleaning staff is intrusive and doesn't understand that "I'm not ready to leave the room" means "go do something else and don't bother me for a while", not "come back in 10 minutes and ask again, and then again and again". They actually ignored a "do not disturb" sign! In any other hotel I stayed, that sign means there will be absolutely NO attempt to get in the room, unless there's a fire or something.

That said, it only happened once and wasn't that big of a deal, so I would definitely not consider it as a reason not to stay there. Just sharing this as a feedback to folks that run the hotel.

Modern, clean and comfortable apartment hotel with friendly and helpful personnel. We had a light, large studio with a balcony. Perfect location with the Gojo subway station on the doorstep of the hotel and bus stops 5 minutes minutes walk away. Fresco supermarket a few minutes up the road had a good selection of food, much better than the 7 Eleven store directly opposite the hotel. The Isetan and Kyoto Tower shopping areas are within walking distance. It felt like home away from home just less crockery and cutlery.
