We could not have chosen a better place to stay! We stayed in a ryokan en-suite room for two nights. The room was exceptionally clean and well maintained with an excellent modern shower - just what you need after a long day sight-seeing. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and spoke very good English. In the rooms they have even provided a information pack for visitors to Kyoto with recommended itineraries and places to visit. The service was 5* yet at a hostel price! There is also free internet to use in the lobby and a place to grab a drink and chill out. We would definitely recommend Capsule Ryokan to anybody we know.

Besides the temples, gardens and shops in Kyoto, every one should take a look at the Capsule Ryokan (even though you may not choose to stay in it), it is really an unique scenery which you could not see outside Japan. If you can forget the room size, it's just a 5 star hotel, it has everything you expected, most of them are free ( I travel in Japan for 12 days, this hotel is the only one who provide convenient free internet access). Considering the low price, I think you don't need to consider other places at all!!

Capsule Ryokan is fabulous. It was inexpensive. The Ryokan is fairly new, very clean, and very space efficient. True, the rooms are small, but who needs a big room when you just need it to sleep and get ready? You have a private shower and toilet. The futons are comfortable. The kitchen is useful if you want to have your own meals at the hotel. It has a sink, microwave, and fridge. There are free computers to use in the lobby, and one set up with a headset if you want to Skype. You can also use the internet in your room if you bring your laptop. They have cables to borrow there to connect it to the outlet to access the internet. The staff fluently speak English and are friendly and helpful. There is a washer and dryer for use too (coin operated). We loved this place!

While taking a trip to Tokyo, my friends and I decided to take a few days and go to Kyoto to see the famous landmarks there. We found the Capsule Ryokan had great reviews, good location and very reasonably priced. A couple of my friends wanted to try the capsule experience so we rented two Tatami Capsules and one Ryokan Ensuite Room.

The Tatami Capsules were roomy and comfortable. The Ryokan Ensuite Room was small yet efficiently laid out. It included a sink, shower, private toilet, wall mounted television, small desk, and tatami bedding with storage underneath.. The shower was a little awkward since it's not enclosed. The place is fairly new so it was very clean.

The location was great, only 15 minute walk to the subway station. However we realized that traveling 4 of us together taking a cab is cheaper than the subway for getting to famous landmarks. There are convenience stores and a few restaurant choices within walking distance too. If you are unsure where to go or what to do, the staff all speak very good English.

This was a great place to go and I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Kyoto. I would recommend everyone stay at a capsule hotel at least once to try it!

I liked the experience to stay in a Capsule. I stay for two days. Is something different, was better than expected.
The staff was very helpful and the capsule is close to the train station.

like the concept. like others have said, the place is tiny but it's so well designed that you still have space to move. really appreciate the thoughtful book with all the information you need of kyoto, we went through the whole book! the staff are nice and friendly. free internet in the lobby, where you can borrow hangers, lan cable, iron, etc for free. there's a fridge and free tea too.

as for location, easy to find after you get out of kyoto station. but since we also stayed in another area surrounded by only old houses, which, in my opinion, is the best way to feel the old capital. but then again you pay what you get.

the only complaint is the futon. too soft and spongy we could hardly sleep.
