We stayed at the Hyatt and ate there the first night after checking in. The food was decent, but way over priced for what it was...there are better restaurants in Kyoto that are more competively priced or simply good enough to warrant that price point. The atmosphere was very vanilla; exactly what you would expect from your average hotel restaurant. That said the place was clean and the staff was very attentive. Overall, if you are in Kyoto get out of the hotel and try one of the countless incredible restaurants on the outskirts of Gion or in Pontocho. While the food is good (not great) it is not like Kozsue or New York Grill at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo, etc that are stand out experiences that will define your trip to those places despite being in a hotel...nor is it a good value if you are trying to stay on a budget. So while the food is decent it misses the mark for both ends of the spectrum of diners: those looking for an experience at almost any price as well as those on a budget.
