the round and square windows are awesome, but vistors are not allowed to take any photo. heard that commercial photographers (taking pictures for a megazine etc) are allowed. if that's true, isn't it a bit of snobbish?
You will see pictures all over Kyoto of the iconic round window of Genkoan, a small temple in the northern hills of the city. But you won't be allowed to take any of your own. It's good to know that before you arrive, since we found it a shock - it is never mentioned in any of the guidebooks. It was a pity, since we arrived for prime autumn color. Still, it is a handsome, gracious little temple and worth experiencing. Get there at opening time in peak season - it is a madhouse by mid-morning.
