Hosts
The owner and his wife speak excellent English and are friendly without being overbearing. However, they will not go out of their way to be your tour guide unless you initiate. When you do ask questions, though, they answer everything gladly.

Rooms

The house is old and full of charm. The stairs are narrow and steep, the walls are sliding doors ... it was such fun to stay in a place with character.

There are 2 rooms available. We stayed in the upstairs room, which was actually 2 rooms. It was wonderful to have so much space for the 4 of us, not to mention to gorgeous views of the mountains (with jet lag, we were all up for sunrise!). It was nice to set up my son's portable crib in the sitting room.

The rooms are tatami mat rooms. Everything is as clean as my own house might be to receive guests, but nothing is sparkling new. Meaning, there is some paint peeling, etc. We loved it, but fussier guests might like more attention to detail.

All guests and the owners share one bath downstairs and one toilet upstairs. We never had a problem with having to wait, other than for my own family :) We also used the washer in their house once during our 2-night stay.

Breakfast was basic toast (Japanese bread is the best!), milk, yogurt, and fruit. It was perfect for us to charge up for the day.

Location
The place can be hard to find on your own and involves a good deal of uphill or stairs, so I'd recommend getting here during daylight. The wife came out to meet us at the bus stop and walk us back to their house. Once we found it, though, it was easy to get everywhere. There is easy access to a number of buses and it is walking distance from the Silver Pavilion.

As a reference, we stayed at a backpackers' hotel/hostel in Tokyo (Sakura Jimbocho) and a business hotel in Narita (Narita U-City).
