Pension Kotomu is located on a raise to Kiyomizu temple. It has two rooms. The one we were in was on the top of the 3-floors building. The futons were in a cupboard and we had to open them out at night and pack them up in the morning. On the low table there were an electric kettle, tea cups, a small teapot, and green tea bags. There were a toilet and a sink (with no hot water), and a common bath/shower room, and each day we reserved a time for the next day's Japanese bath.
The owner was a very nice and very helpful person, speaking enough English to ask us questions and more or less answer to ours!
At the check in, his wife brought us a cup of tea, and he gave us a map of the Arashiyama area and of the town, telling us how to get there and what to see. He was also checking the weather forecast each day and lent us umbrellas for the rainy days.
And at check out, although we had planned to take the bus, he insisted to take us to the train station with his car!
