“Nice shrine with entertainment”
Reviewed April 16, 2014 via mobile

Easy to get by subway with nice shops along the way. We arrived by midday and some entertainment was being performed that make it more interesting. We paid for going inside the garden and it was worth it. The garden has several ponds, very nice landscape.

“Beautiful, especially during Sakura (cherry blossom) season”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

well organised circuit around the garden typical of other Japanese attractions. I wasn't planning to come but was told it was one of the few places still with cherry blossom blooming as we came a little late in the season. I would not have missed it. also a very nice walk to it from the Gion area through a series of other temples.

“Beautiful garden one of my favorites”
Reviewed April 9, 2014 via mobile

The shrine itself is not so interesting, go straight to the garden, absolutely stunning. It has a bit of everything, cherry blossoms fanning overhead, a stroll next to a stream, a huge pond with a bridge and stepping stones across it... Is magical in cherry blossom season and I would think any session!

Such an unexpected surprise. I only saw this because it was on the way to something else, but I'm so glad I did. The shrine is bright, vivid and impressive, but that's not the draw here. Do not miss the gardens around the back. Wonderful!! I nearly didn't go in, because they charged 600 yen and from what I could see from the entrance it looked tiny. Go!! The gardens are beautiful, picturesque and filled with wildlife (and cherry blossoms at the moment). Saw a crane, fed the massive carp and had a wonderful walk, even though it was raining slightly! Do not miss.
