Whilst visiting Japan last month, we discovered a beautiful area called Sagano, a walking path surrounded by tall bamboos on both sides of the grove. It was serene, not very crowded with tourists and a truly wonderful experience. The river afterwards was also very beautiful. We went for a Buddhist vegetarian meal after this and that itself was similar to the ryotai eating experiences. The ladies serving us were warm and hospitable and our dining room overlooked a lovely garden. The entire day was peaceful and enriched our souls.

This was in my list from the very beginning. It was beautiful there. Although when I went, there were too many people. It was so hard to get a decent pic without people in it. I recommend rent a bicycle to get around. The area was huge.

I love to walk down at the alley in between the bamboo forest. I've found it is very tranquil and the sounds of the clashing between bamboo trees were like a music to me. This place is the main attraction if you are in Kyoto. Take your time to enjoy the nature here. It is worth visit but bear in mind, this place is sometimes crowded with tourists from all over the world.

Loved it. the one place that there were not too many tourists/school children so you could enjoy the nature more than the people watching. highly recommend it. makes for a nice walk.
