“Beautiful place.. even in the winter”
Reviewed February 10, 2014 via mobile

We went just last week and it was beautiful with the snow falling. I can see why the grounds is considered a Unesco site. Does not take too long but you need to like seeing temples to enjoy this. After the walk you can exit and goto the bamboo forest.

“Expensive entrance fees but good experiences”
Reviewed December 14, 2013 via mobile

Agreed with the comments others made regarding the entrance fees. Probably they need more funds to preserve this nice temple.

There were some preservations works going on when we were there. But, the workers were quite professional and the noise levels were tolerable.

Bring extra filters if you like photograpghy. The big fishes in the pond, the pine tree stretching to the water, the read leaves of the maple trees, the hill and blue sky, all make magnificent views for good photo shoots. Unfortunately, tripods are not allowed.

“Beautiful zen garden”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

The garden is definitely worth visiting. Red leaves, bamboo, flowers, clear pond, hills create a beautiful picture of tenryuji. It's easy to walk around.
There is a hall featuring the cloud dragon on the ceiling, although it is stunning, I must have to say that the entrance fee is a bit high (same as the price for garden) as the hall is not very big which is just a few minutes to go one round in slow motion....at most 10-15min would finish.

“Beautiful autumn colors, very crowded.”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

Tenryuji has a fine pond garden with great autumn colors, worth a stroll. The exterior on the east side is under renovation. In my opinion the inside is not worth visiting, but the garden is worth the trip, and don't miss the bamboo forest on the north side.

“Pond as Leaves Change”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

The view of the trees and leaves across the pond as leaves changed was the prettiest view, bar none, in all of Kyoto. I went to this area to see Arashiyama, but the best thing of all turned out to be Tenryuji.
