Pretty nice place with traditional rooms and a really nice owner. The rooms aren't super cheap (as everything else in Japan), but they are cheaper than in other places. The guesthouse has a computer free of charge, its not centrally located, but its close to the golden pavillion and other temples.

If you want an autentic experience this is the place to stay.

our family of 4 stayed for 2 nights and experienced the authentic japanese old school home. we slept on futons.
the guesthouse is operated by a couple who has travelled around the world (their travel pictures are displayed on the walls).
if you're clumsy, you need to be careful as this house with limited space is fully stacked with appliances.
cleanliness here is japanese standard (very clean even with the propreitor's dog sleeping inside).
there's only one shared shower, toilet and urinoir so you may have to queue and wait in the living room to use any of them. however, funaoka onsen, a public bath, is only a few blocks away. strolling around the neighborhood and taking a bath there will add to the old school japanese experience.

My cousin and I traveled to Kyoto in December and stayed at this guesthouse for one night. The owner was very nice and spoke great English. He also knew a lot about the area and was very helpful. The guesthouse is located pretty far from the Kyoto station but its very close to the Golden Pavilion and Ryoanji Temple.
Overall the stay was very nice, the guesthouse was very clean and really showed us how people lived in Kyoto over the past 100 years. The guesthouse is made out of wood and I believe is about 80 years old, therefore its very dark and the walls are very thin. I have to admit, at times I was a bit nervous because it was so accessible and dark. Ekk! Not sure if I would have stayed there if I was traveling alone (unless I was a male.) Our room was very nice - real Japanese mats and we slept on the floor with comfortable sheets and a heater in the room. They ask you to shut the heater off at night and honestly our room stayed hot enough so being cold was not an issue. They also have a computer and internet access, as well as free wifi! I would definitely recommend this guesthouse if you like to experience new things and like to travel off the beaten path. Its definitely a unique experience!

I lived in Kyoto for several years, and the area around Daitokuji was always a favourite. Nagomi was a truly exceptional find. I stayed for nearly a week, and enjoyed every minute of it! If you're looking for a taste of 'traditional' Kyoto with a modern spin, this is the place to stay.

Location: It's somewhat far away from Kyoto Station, but Kyoto has so much more to offer than that. Rent a bicycle and explore the surrounding area, there are dozens of places to see within a 15-20 minute bike ride. Lots of places to eat. And one of the most amazing public bath houses in the city.

Service: Hide is a fantastic host - friendly, flexible, helpful, and interested in getting to know his guests.

Building: Nagomi is a refurbished traditional house, and they've done an amazing job! Yes, it has creaky floors and the walls/doors are thin, but that's life in Kyoto! It's comfortable, has everything you need - and I slept SO well every night!

I can't recommend Nagomi more highly - and I will stay there again!

This is my 2nd review for Nagomi guest house, I had expressed some unhappiness in the way they handle their pets in my earlier review but it had been clarified by the owner so I decide to update the review by writing a new updated one. I stayed there for 3 nights during my stay in Kyoto, it's a small guest house tuck in a quiet neighbourhood near the Daitokuji Temple, the nearest train station is quite a distance away but there is a bus stop nearby. The guest house itself carries a certain age and the wooden floors are quite squeaky so you have to stay real quiet at night or the whole house will know your movement lol. The room is really simple, the futons and blankets are comfortable and there is heater in the room. There is a washroom and shower downstairs at the main area and a small kitchen area to make some drinks. The owner have two lovely dogs, they were mostly caged when we were there, however the owner has clarified that matter and mentioned to us if the guests would like to play with the dogs, you can always let them know and they will let the dogs out to play. So if you are a dog lover, do request that from the owners because those dogs are really adorable. Overall, I would say it's value for money if you just need a place to sleep for the night, great for back packers.

Guest House Nagomi is old wooden house, and because of that there was very cold in march. The rooms have heaters and blankets were warm, so at nights there wasnt cold. I slept there very good. The house is lovely, the rooms are quite big and clean.
Walls are very thin and we could hear everything what other people talked in other rooms. Mostly people were quiet, so it didn't bother us.
The owner, Hide, is very friendly and helpful.
Location is quite far from central Kyoto (it takes 40 minutes with bus from Kyoto Station), but the neighbourhood is nice and there's lot's of great and cheap restaurants. The golden pavilion is also very near.
