This historic property features a lovely garden, where guests can stroll after the meal. Our tour lunch was a sampler and much of the food was good. The service was more of a banquet style. The boards and brochures suggest that the prices for meals on your own are reasonable for Kyoto. The selection and venue are shown on their website: www.gankofood.co.jp which is solely in Japanese. This is a nice choice for an overview of the general cuisine of Japan.

I can't speak highly enough of this fine restaurant. Everything was perfection. The cuisine so wonderfully presented I was hesitant to eat it but could not resist. The restaurant itself is stunning in it's Japanese simplicity.

If you dine here you must make time for an after meal stroll in the restaurants beautiful garden through which the Kamo River flows.

This was the most traditional Japanese restaurant I've been. The servers are all dressed in Kimono, the decor of the place brings you back to an older time. The most thrilling part of the experience was the garden view and geisha performance.

Food at Nijoen is also really good. The price was very reasonable and even on the cheaper end for quality sushi and sashimi, which strikes me as surprising as the place is both very upscale and has great food. My expectations have probably been tampered by Tokyo dining experiences.
