Staff were very friendly here and we left our luggage, when we returned at 7 they had put in our room for us.
We stayed on the 9th floor and the room felt huge in comparison to Tokyo. Bathroom was a decent size (for Japan) and had a good shower.
The bed was really comfortable and had 2 pillows which felt like a luxury. Lots of power points.
It's 20mins walk from the station and we walked to nishiki, gion, Fushimi-Inari all from here.

We booked this hotel quite last minute when availability for 7 nights was limited, however we made the perfect choice! Before arriving I'd enquired whether an iron was available in the room. They quickly responded to say that an iron was available from reception. We arrived to check-in (which was quick and easy) and were asked, "Would you like to borrow the iron?" They had clearly noted my enquiry and the iron plus ironing board was sat on the desk behind the receptionist waiting for us. It was a great first impression that they had the consideration to do that. One of the ladies on reception brought the iron up to our room as we had all of our luggage. So kind!

The room itself (twin room, 8th floor) was spacious, clean and quiet. The beds were comfortable (quite firm, but this is Japan) and with all the amenities you could need: tea & coffee making facilities, fridge, air conditioning, TV with BBC World News, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, slippers, robe for the onsen, WiFi, toothbrushes, amenity kits etc. We also had a large wardrobe and drawers to unpack, plus a table with two chairs. Power points were also plentiful, including ones built into the centre bedside table (where you could also control all of the lights). Great design!

The bathroom has the fancy Japanese toilet with all the buttons (if you dare to press them!) and a good size shower and bath. The bathroom also has a heater facility which allows you to dry any laundry by hanging it over the bath tub. Very handy, although it does turn the bathroom into a sauna! Best of all was the bottled water left by housekeeping every day - we could put them in the fridge each night and take them out with us the next morning. Perfect in the hot weather!

The staff we met were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. Their English was excellent and made you feel like a guest, not a number. On our first night, the panel in reception showed that our air conditioning wasn't working correctly so they came to the room to check, however it was found to be working fine. The receptionist nonetheless arranged for someone to take a look at it the next morning, just to be sure everything was ok. Despite us finding the air con to be working fine it was great that they wanted to be sure so that we would be comfortable during our stay.

The location is also great. Just a minute from Gojo station (exit 2 - walk straight ahead when you get to street level and the hotel is on the right) or five minutes from exit 6 which has a lift (turn left out of the exit, cross the road where Yoshinoya is and walk left, the hotel is on your right). It's a 10-15 minute walk from Kyoto station (or one subway stop south) and around 15-20 minutes walk from downtown Kyoto (or one subway stop north to Shijo). The bus stop near to Gojo exit 2 takes you straight to Higashiyama for a lot of the major sightseeing spots, plus there are plenty of other bus stops nearby to take you to other areas. The hotel also has some tourist leaflets in reception and the staff will also be happy to help if you ask. The hotel's website has some information on bus routes nearby and I believe you can buy one-day passes from reception.

All in all we were delighted with our stay and found it to be excellent value for money. I hope to return to Kyoto some day and will definitely be putting Hotel San Crane at the top of my list!

Room tip: Room 803 (twin room) had a great view of Kyoto tower and Higashi Honganji temple

I stayed at this hotel in April 2018 with my husband and two friends. We were two couples, and this hotel had a large room to accommodate us all! The beds were comfortable, air conditioning worked very well, and the bathroom was spacious (and included typical Japanese style Western toilet with warm seat and all the crazy buttons!). Toiletries were all provided - even toothpaste and toothbrush. We had a kettle and packets of tea, coffee, and creamer. There was lots of closet space, a small table and chairs, and a sitting area to do hair and makeup.

The service here was impeccable. The staff was so friendly, kind, and helpful. We got bottled water in our room everyday, and could even ask for extra bottles on our way out. They answered our questions, and even found a quiet corner for me to exercise since the hotel doesn’t have a gym. The breakfast (about $12) is available American or Japanese style. My friends tried both and they were each good in their own way. There is a nice indoor men’s and women’s onsen - the women’s must be accessed by a code, which is nice. We had pretty robes and slippers to wear.

This stay was a comfortable welcome to Japan! The staff was exceptional. The room was comfortable. The location is good if you don’t mind a little walking. You can walk to the train station, convenience store, and even karaoke. Would definitely stay here again.

I was very satisfied with my stay here, and it beat my expectations. The location is half a block from the subway and one stop from Kyoto station making it perfect for a home base to travel around nearby cities. On the other hand it's somewhat far from the nightlife and restaurants of Gion and Sanjo, about a 15 minute walk. I highly recommend renting bikes from J-Cycle a 5 Minute walk as the city is built for cyclists.

The front desk at the hotel was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The public bath on the 4th floor was a pleasant bonus to relax after a long day but I recommend visiting one of the nearby "Sento's" for the complete experience. Cleaning service was excellent.

The room itself was quaint but very clean and comfortably fit 2 of us. As in all of Japan the washroom was excellent with great shower pressure and a fully featured toilet. The AC was the best AC I've ever experienced in a hotel, it was super quiet and incredibly effective. The beds were also firm but quite comfortable.

For the price I recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay close to Kyoro station for excursions.
