nothing to worry about about this place

the japanese style room was much better than the rest of its price category

the only worries came from the fact, that the place is far from the action

I would stay somewhere near Karasume Oike, even if the room was less opulent

We stayed one night at this Ryokan in March 2014 during our trip to Japan. We had signed up for one night stay with dinner and breakfast included. The staff greeted us nicely on our arrival and were very helpful in the whole check-in process. The room was spacious and clean. The only glitch was that the toilet was dirty and it seemed like an overlook but on informing the front desk about it, the service was prompt and it was cleaned right away. The multi-course dinner was delicious and an amazing experience and the breakfast next morning was equally good. The hot public bath (onsen) was a relaxing experience and had a great view of the city. The staff throughout was very courteous and extremely helpful. They could communicate in English for the most part. It was well worth the money.

We stayed in three different Ryokans on this trip, and this was the best. We felt very welcome because the service was very friendly and attentive. They provided advice about how to get around and offered to book a taxi for us on the day we left. There were free handwarmers and umbrellas to borrow. The room was a good size and quality for the price.

The bath was on the top floor with a great view over the city at night – much better than the other two we stayed in whose baths were in the basement.

The location wasn't the most accessible. A 15 minute walk from the Kyoto station, and 10 mins from Gojo metro. It turned out that taxi was the cheapest way for four of us to get around.

Best point is that the staff provides excellent service. They found ways to accommodate our on-the-spot room reservation, even on a late night of Kyoto's most populous season. They treated us with hospitality just the same as with normal guests, providing proper Japanese room setup and welcome snacks -- in spite of the hurry in fixing up the room for the immediate need. They can also provide guests with very good tourist spot recommendations and information on ways to get there.

Also, the onsen (hot bath) at the topmost floor had an amazing view.

The location is quite convenient and close to many attractions, 24 hrs super market, subway station. we stayed in Japanese style room for 3 and the room is quite big, at least bigger than we thought. Staff are so nice, friendly and very helpful in everything. wifi is okay even on 3 floor we stayed the signal was not so good but if you come to use at lobby it's great. on 6th floor there is public bath which is nice and open late till midnight if you are shy, try to come late like 10pm less people at that time. Overall is good and valuable hotel. I would recommend to anyone and would love to visit again. :)

Stayed there for 1 night, wanted to try real japaneese style home. We had small room, but actually it was more bigger then usual room in 3-stars hotel in Japan. Small shower and toilet, bar in the room, always hot water in the cattle. Helpful staff. Separated traditional japaneese style bath on 6th floor - too bad that's it's sepatated for guys and girls, was a reason why we not used it.
But everything was really fine!

We stayed very happy here for 2 nights.
Bathroom and toilet area is larger than other hotels with same rate.
Room area is OK. very clean with room make up every day.
Every staffs are nice and can speak English.
The location is a little bit far from Kyoto station, however,
we learnt to use the city bus no. 50 the second day,
very convenience, bus stop in front of the hotel.
We will stay here again next time in Kyoto.
