Stayed here for 3 nights, great location! Staff are very friendly. We asked the concierge desk to help us plan our days in Kyoto and they were very helpful, and they also had coupons to a theatre we were going to! My partner saw a dog bed that a friend in Japan had that we wanted for our pup back in the USA and concierge even called around to look for it, they weren't able to find it at first because it was from a season ago, but continued to search. When we got back to our room concierge called to say they found the dog bed and have put it on hold for us, AMAZING! Rooms are a good size, bathroom a little tight if two people were getting ready at the same time as the toilet takes up half the floor space. Rooms aren't sound proof as I can hear people walking in hallways or in room next door on occasion. Def will stay here again.

We stayed there 4 nights and completely enjoyed the hotel. The hotel is at perfect location. The train station, subway or bus stop is just minutes away. They offer two breakfast buffet: one traditional Japanese and one more European. We tried both and were really happy with both of them. If you go to breakfast (Europe) try to be before 7:30 or after 8:30, otherwise you will be stuck in a queue. At least it was like that when we stayed, maybe it will be different for your case. The room service and generally all service was very good. We ordered normal double room, but it was quite big compared to other hotel we stayed in Japan.

Room Tip: Try to select the rooms not so far from elevator, otherwise hotel is very big.

Stayed 3 nights in April to start our tour of Japan. Location was very central as the hotel adjoined the main train station and was very convenient as we had to travel by train from Osaka to Kyoto. Rooms were modern, comfortable and like most places in Japan, extremely clean. The buffet breakfast had a good variety of western and Japanese cuisine and was very enjoyable.

Location, location, and location!

Room is clean and staffs all are well-trained with caring and helpful manner...I would say this is a very beautiful 4-nights stay at Hotel Granvia Kyoto for solo female guest, they even provided everthing for lady, so sweet....

Tried Western buffet breakfast, Japanese breakfast, and lunch in this hotel, the quality of food and service from staffs are excellent during my stay.

There are drawbacks-
1. Room doesnot have good views
2. Room is a bit old

We have stayed in this great hotel for four nights. Location couldn't be better. Conveniently located over Kyoto station where one has access to the majors bus lines that leads to main attractions in the city. Staff is kind and helpful, especially at the concierge, from whom we had great tips about restaurants. A shopping mall in the same building has plentiful choices of restaurants.
I just recommend that you try to get a room close to the elevators, otherwise, you will have to walk a lot, as we did, to reach your room.
A hotel that worths every yen paid.

We stayed in Kyoto for the last leg of our Japan trip, and had moderate expectations due to reviews.

Unfortunately we were a little underwhelmed with our experience.
We had booked a 'Standard' double room through Expedia, and paid just a smudge under $200AUD/night through a deal (stay 4 nights discount).

Firstly - the location is handy: on top of Kyoto Station - just pop down an escalator or two and you can get on trains/Shinkansen/buses to wherever you want to go.
The area around the immediate station area is pretty ugly and concrete - perhaps staying in downtown Kyoto may have been nicer? We opted for convenience.

We didn't use any of the amenities/restaurants the hotel offers.
Our room rate didn't come with breakfast, and at 2700 yen each (for what appears to be a somewhat lacklustre) breakfast- we opted for the option of eating out instead - mostly picked up some danishes etc and a coffee (can recommend Ogawa downstairs in 'Porta Dining' for a fairly good coffee - our takeaways were better than our dining in experience) for around 1500yen to feed two big eaters well!

When we arrived, the hotel seems to be generally quite 'dark'? Maybe it is a thing - I have noticed most hotels do seem to be quite 'moody'...? We noted the lobby seemed dated, but always so god damn busy! The hotel does have some thing like 500+ rooms.

Checking in was quick, we did have to wait 10 minutes or so - but we had arrived a tiny bit early. We were told that no bell boys were available to help us with our luggage - an option we never take as we both feel more than capable to deal with our own belongings. There certainly were staff running around the place. Bustling.

The room - like others have said - dated. And probably with the least useful amenities. It was dark and drab, but moderately sized. Bed was comfortable enough & same with the pillows.
We were disappointed our room didn't come with a safe! Not sure what hotels this day and age don't have in-room safes??? We kept our passports on us and also kept all our cash on us (we usually divvie it up a little each day).
Also the lack of power points was frustrating.
Shower was antiquated, with two fixed heights for the shower head.

And no view. We were on the 11th floor and our view was of the arching roof of the train station. Nothing to look at there. The rooms on the other side of the corridor at least had views of the area - and for some reason these rooms were unoccupied for the entirety of our stay.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my friends or family. And we would try something else next time.

Located at the JR Kyoto station this is perfect for arrival and departure, and also for using the underground system for getting around Kyoto.

Had a superior room - large, and with an excellent wet-room style bathroom.

Breakfast - various choices - the buffet at Y 2200 each was good value - cooked, continental and Japanese options.

Staff were extremely helpful, polite and willing to do anything, especially the concierges.

Used the swimming pool once - Y 1080 entry fee but the water was uncomfortably warm for swimming.
