“Unbeatable location”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

The rooms here are nothing extraordinary but at the same time they are sufficient. You pay for the location and if you're moving around a lot, it's probably worth it. I wouldn't stay here if I was a tourist and wanted to stroll the streets of Gion and get to know the city's history etc, but we were on business and it was perfect for that.

We asked for a quiet room near the elevators as we knew we were going to be short on time and didn't want to be running up and down the corridors. They obliged and gave us a room overlooking Kyoto Tower (which to be honest is nothing much to look at but probably better than looking at the train tracks, which I presume might be the alternative). It was really quiet and so quick to access - made us feel we made the right choice. Will probably stay here again next time.

Location is VERY convenient even if not in the most beautiful section of tow --within steps of the Kyoto train station and several great restaurants and shops. If train station shops and restaurants aren't for you, there's a Yodabashi nearby and also several restaurants and cute streets. There are always cabs at your fingertips and you never need to explain to your driver how to get to Kyoto Station.

The staff and concierge are so helpful, organized and friendly. We inquired into tours and restaurant reservations and even when there was no immediate answer over the phone, when we returned to the concierge a few hours later, they had print outs of any relevant follow up information or said they would call our room once they reached the other party. The follow up was excellent. They also speak English well which is wonderful. Changing money, getting new towels and cleaning laundry is simple and straightforward. The staff is superb at giving directions and printing out maps for taxi cab drivers... They have superior customer service and do their jobs well.

The hotel itself is above average but doesn't go the extra mile in terms of decor. The rooms are spacious, specifically the bathroom which frankly has a toilet that's more advanced than a lot of the other high-tech toilets we encountered. It's motion sensitive (when you approach it and when it flushes), mists itself periodically, and has an internal light that's very helpful at night. The shower is in a separate "room" and is also spacious with many settings and a bathtub to the side. The views of Kyoto from your room are also quite nice. All in all, enjoyed out stay and had an easy, fun time!

This is a big, busy, impersonal hotel, but it is in a great spot for exploring Kyoto and, despite its size, the staff are extremely courteous and helpful - far more so than the St Regis we stayed at in Osaka before hand. The rooms are very basic and lack any kind of style at all, but they are very clean and have good views and great baths and showers. They do not have inter-connecting rooms at all, which makes travelling with a family a little less convenient, and the room service menu was really bad. Breakfast is fine though, with a reasonable selection of western and asian food, and our kids loved their pancakes and easy-access hot chocolate. It was our first trip to Kyoto, so a good choice overall, although next time we visit I think we will look for somewhere that is a bit more stylish and nearer to Gion for exploring. Do ask for a room on the side away from the tracks, as the first rooms we had overlooked the station and were very noisy - although they were very helpful in moving us very quickly and efficiently when I asked.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the south wing, away from the railway tracks.

Everything with hotel is spot on:
Wonderful polite and kind service from every member of staff who always knew or found the answer;
Great location, sitting on top of the station and in the heart of the city;
Lovely spacious room - though I may have been upgraded - not sure - I was on 10F;
Wonderful food, including the most enormous choice at a delicious breakfast on 2F, with other restaurants on 15F and 3F also serving fabulous food of various cuisines at lunch;
Even though it is in the city centre and next to the station, unbelievable quiet hotel.

The Kyoto Station is right below the hotel with easy access to Osaka, Tokyo, etc. The Deer Park in Nara is a short train trip away. For those who enjoy shopping and food, therein the underground mall and restaurants nearby. The room is of reasonable size and well-equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. I have stayed here twice within a year!

This hotel is a brilliant location!

Firstly for the access to the bus station - which is the best way to get around kyoto
Secondly for its proximity to shopping malls with floors of restraunts - great variety of reasonably priced food
Thirdly for its proximity to tourist information (in the station)
Fourthly for the location in the station - which is likely to be how you get to and/or leave kyoto!

The room was spacious with great views, breakfast a bit average but fine, quiet despite the location on the station.

Very near to Shinkansen station. And next to a really huge Isetan departmental store. We paid a little more to get a room on the top floor with lounge access. Had a really nice view of Kyoto tower with mountains in the far background.
Economical as well. Not very expensive for the convenience.
