Very easy to travel within Japan with luggage especially with a Japan Rail Pass because you do not have to leave the station. There are many shops and restaurants at the station as well. Busses and local trains are also easy to use.

The hotel is part of the extensive Kyoto JR central station complex. An interesting building that is not always easy to navigate because it sprawls over many levels. This hotel is in keeping with that, having many long corridors and a bit confusing to navigate in areas depending on which entrance you use.

The room is large and comfortable. Very western style without many obvious Japanese touches, therefore don't expect this hotel to provide you with a quintessential Kyoto experience that you may find elsewhere.

The hotel is a convenient base for sightseeing with major train and bus services all right at the hotel door.

The breakfast buffet was extensive with food to please all palates, Japanese style and Western style. Cook to order omelettes with choose your own ingredients.

All in all, a nice hotel but nothing mind blowing.

After many visits to a hotel, one usually begins to notice things which annoy. Not the case here! The Granvia, ideally located in the JR Kyoto Station, has kept improving.
The rooms are large by Japanese standards and very well appointed. Amenities are excellent, including little loofah sponges which fit your hand. The bathroom had a wood floor, and the shower room had a tower of spray which you could get to shower you at every level.
The breakfast remains an amazingly good event, huge selection and top quality. They have the best bacon I have ever had. They must cure it themselves as I have never had anything like it, anywhere, sort of a cross between merican streaky bacon and English back bacon. WHatever it is they are doing with it, it is amazingly good.

This is a very good hotel in a fun location. The train station was a great choice for a few nights in Kyoto. Other than the train station and good dining and shopping the other Kyoto attractions are a bus or train ride away. We also had to use taxis for convenience.

The rooms are modern clean and offer a good view of the city.

I spent 3 nights here.

Perfect location:
- just in the same building of the JR station, but not noisy
- very very closed to the bus terminal and underground train
- also next to the underground shopping street and Isetan
- many restaurants nearby

Nice room:
- i got a room facing the Kyoto Tower and i could watch most part of the city
- spacious
- nice deco, with art gallery all around the building
- good equipped toilet
- i got all amenities i need (included makeup remover, slippers...), except... the moisturizer... XD (they provided makeup remover and cottons, but no moisturizer...)

Warm smile with all staffs!

Breakfast: not as good as i expect ( LA TEMPS, western and japanese breakfast buffet), and it's not included with my stay. so i just tried once.

Service: the sweet-smile lady made 2 mistakes during my chk-in & chk-out, but the smiles made things smoother...

I really like this hotel, and i think I WILL BE BACK...

Room Tip: rooms on the north side can see the kyoto tower and it's not noisy.

This is an excellent hotel with lovely service in restaurants, bars and at concierge. The 15 th floor bar is particularly nice for a cocktail once dusk falls and we really enjoyed the food in the Italian restaurant as a change from Japanese food. Rooms are well appointed with nice bathrooms and good toiletries with hypnotic sights and sounds of the train station below. Strange but oddly soothing. Breakfast looks amazing in the buffet on the second floor and if you want Asian style food, the choice is incredible. For western tastes it's a little underwhelming but there is fruit, juice and cereal of sorts with eggs and strange sausage and bacon.
The location above the station is great, ideal for easy connections by train, bus and subway but also excellent for shopping and dining. We ate really well at cafes, cheap restaurants and ice cream places and picked up unusual souvenirs. Forget all your preconceptions of British railway stations - this one is classy with high quality establishments. All in all a great place to stay in this fascinating city.

If you want to explore Kyoto, that is the perfect place to stay, strategically place in the center of Kyoto.
Only one advice, please be careful when you book your room, ensure this is what you are looking for.
I was staying there for 3 nights, the standard room we booked was a bit small and with not safe, in order to get a safe in the room we need to upgrade to a more expensive room, this is quite awkward, bearing in mind you pay for a 5 stars hotel, they should have mentioned this on the specs,
The location is just great over Kyoto train station, with swimming pool and great spa
This is a great place to stay
the restaurant was very good,
Breakfast was outstanding
