We stayed at Granvia mainly due to it's great location above Kyoto Station, but boy were we surprised at it being such a beautiful hotel, with great facilities, and a very helpful and extremely polite staff in employment there!
The Buffet Breakfast was nothing short of a feast, and the dining options none the less in comparison!
With easy access to all of what Kyoto has to offer, I can highly recommend staying at Granvia!

I stayed two nights in this hotel and had a wonderful experience. The staff are so friendly helpful and yet professional. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Great location make a note that it is on the North side of the station and if you get the bus from Haneda it drops you off on the South side of the station, so you need to go down to the underpass and work your way across.
Lots of restaurants but no information about menus, opening times or cost in your room which means you have to go all around hotel to look at them.
Room service food was good quality and prompt service
Try cafe bar for breakfast, pastries were lovely and copious amounts of lovely coffee
Dined in French restaurant and had a great meal.
Internet service  terrible we could join the wireless network but never managed to get into emails etc. even in the middlemofmthe night - had no problem at all in other hotels we stayed in whilst travelling Japan. I feel this is one of the best hotels in Kyoto.

We loved our stay at the Granvia. Besides having a superb location, the rooms were fairly large, quiet and comfortable. There is a large selection of restaurants in the hotel and shopping malls close by. The architecture of the hotel/train station/shops is amazing. Being a photographer, I was in heaven.

Room Tip: A City view on the higher up floors are worth it.

I stayed at Granvia hotel for 15 days on business. I had stayed at Hyatt Regency and JAL hotels in the past and can honestly say this is the best hotel in Kyoto considering its excellent location, room and food quality, and the value. My room was 1201 right in front of the Kyoto tower. The room is spacious with two comfortable chairs and a desk. One feature I liked is the alarm clock - the bedside lamps automatically light up 30 minutes before the alarm and gradually brighten until the alarm rings. Bathroom is also spacious. This is a pretty standard for Japanese hotels but you get a long pajama so no need to worry about bringing yours from home.

There are 2 breakfast options. One is at a traditional Japanese restaurant and the other is a buffet. I tried both and would recommend the buffet. It has Japanese and non Japanese options. It's not as extravagant as what you may see in other Asian hotels but it does its job for about $25. There are also cafes and daughnut places right outside of the hotel lobby if you prefer. There are many restaurants in the hotel for lunch and dinner. I only tried the tempura and Italian restaurants. They were good but expensive for what it is. I also had the room service 3-4 times for dinner. The food was surprisingly delicious, especially steamed/grilled vegetables in cocotte, and red snapper in seafood broth. A salad, entree, a glass of wine would be around $50. Obviously there are many food options in the adjacent Isetan department store. I also frequented the groceory store on the B2 floor of Isetan - it has an excellent selection of cooked food, fruits, bento boxes, vegetable juice station, bakery, sashimi, sushi, etc. at very reasonable prices. It closes at 8pm.

One downside of this hotel was the gym. It was small and equipments were limited, although it is better than most Marriott hotels in US. There is a 20+m pool which was always empty. You are charged 1050 yen each time.

I flew in to Itami airport in Osaka. There was a airport bus that drops you across the street from the hotel. On the way back to the airport I took the MK taxi at 5:45am Saturday morning which took me about 35 minutes to the airport with almost no traffic. I made the reservation through the concierge and cost only 6800 yen including tolls. They told me it's about 15 minute walk to the airport bus stop so I think the taxi option makes sense though the bus fare is only about 1200 yen. If you come in from KIX, the airport express drops you right below the hotel.

If I return to Kyoto again either for business or pleasure I will stay here again. Hyatt was perhaps more trendy but it's about 15 min walk from Kyoto station and you have to take a taxi to everywhere.

We stayed at this property for three nights and cannot recommend it highly enough.

The hotel definitely has all the amenities and facilities you would expect with a five star hotel. Located conveniently above the rail station and near the bus terminal - getting around is never a problem. Bicycles are available for hire nearby.

The hotel is luxurious and the rooms all decorated and supplied with quality toiletries.

We had breakfast twice and it was a wide selection of perfectly cooked food.

All the staff are friendly and professional, going the extra mile to help out. English is widely spoken by the staff, so communicating was not an issue.

We would definitely return and stay here again. It is a beautiful hotel.

Room Tip: Higher is always better for a view!

For a stopover trip from Tokyo this was a great place to stay. It's at the train station and just next to the bus station so getting anywhere is really easy. The hotel is really lovely and more upmarket than where I usually stay - nice to have classy accommodation now and then ;-). While not in the middle of the old Kyoto, having all transport options nearby makes things pretty easy. The rooms are really lovely and the views (ask for a high floor room) are impressive.

Room Tip: Didn't eat in the hotel... but there's a great restaurant area below the train station where...

A perfect hotel - type (quite different as it's spread around/across the Kyoto railway station complex), location (on the station), staff & servicing. No faults, perfection in all ways Japanese.

Even if you only stay here for one single night, do it for the experiences of what a superb hotel is and should be across this country. Later go to the smaller (cheaper ?) ones that surround the station. Stayed twice on recent week's holiday in the Kansai region, we had stayed here previously and not long after it all opened (around 14 years ago), still as we remembered it all - perfect in everyway !! The hotel's access is excellent, for both rail and local buses. Food availability is plentiful - downstairs in the shopping arcades (Porta and CUBE) as well as 2 floors up on top of the department store (Isetan) at the opposite end of the station building.

Room Tip: Just try your luck - room locations and/or types are part of this Hotel's charm (even rooms &quo...
