“Convenient and quiet stay above Kyoto Station”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

I can only echo the rave reviews from other travelers about the wonderful location with access to Kyoto main rail station as well as a large bus and taxi terminal outside. The staff is also extremely helpful, willing to point you toward any and all activities or restaurants that you desire within the immediate station vicinity as well as throughout Kyoto, even during busy times. The underground shopping mall is worth a visit, especially for breakfast as the hotel's offerings can be pricey, although delicious. Rooms here are large, clean, modern, and surprisingly quiet and relaxing considering the bustling station below. Highly recommended for the business traveler trying to get in a day or two of sightseeing before moving on to other locations.

Found right at the Kyoto Station (which is a tourist attraction by itself), it was not only convenient to get to from the airport with all of our luggage, but was prime location for touring the city. It is surrounded with restaurants, malls, etc. Don't forget to go to the basement of Isetan Mall for free tastings.

Room is spacious with more than enough amenities. The bed and pillows were yummy. The concierge was extremely helpful in suggesting very good restaurants and the hotel allowed us to leave our luggage overnight while we stayed at a Ryokan.

Stayed here for four nights in the fall high season for the Kyoto area. As many state in reviews, the location is indeed convenient to the Kyoto metro, high speed trains and local trains to areas like Nara. After a 24 hour day of air and train travel to get to Kyoto, it was great to simply go up the escalator to the hotel at the station. The room was on one of the top two floors and give us access to the lounge. We were pleased with the spaciousness and comfort of the room, and a lot of the little details are done well. AS noted by others, the bath was, in a word, awesome, with a separate shower and tub and lots of high tech fixtures. The breakfast was excellent with a huge selection of Japanese and western items and fresh ground coffee. The staff were helpful and courteous. I was a bit surprised by the very high price points of the restaurants in the hotel, but there are many places in the area to get great food, and the food vendors in the basement of the Isetan store at the station offer all kinds of fresh well-prepared fare at reasonable cost (just be prepared to adjust to the crowds and focus on the vendors who have the long lines of customers). I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kyoto for the first time.

The hotel is in a very convenient location with direct access from Kyoto main station. If arriving in Kyoto by bus from the airport, the airport bus terminal is on the opposite side of the station to the hotel. Standard rooms are quite large and well equipped. Bathroom itself has that modular feel common in Japanese style hotels and is quite compact. There is no separate shower. Also for some rooms due to the hotel design the walk from the elevator can seem like an eternity. If travelling with the elderly or immobile ask for a room close to the elevators. Other than Kyoto J R Station itself, the main tourist attractions are some distance from the hotel however the main bus terminal for local buses to all the main sites is just outside and again convenient. (Kyoto’s main sites are spread around the city so wherever you stay will involve a decent commute between attractions). For shopping there is an Isetan department store and Yodabashi Camera store in the station complex complete with a large number of restaurants and cafés. Food in the hotel is of course at hotel prices but there are lots of options in and around the station. Also the hotel offers guests a discount card for use at hotel restaurants. At certain times the lobby/concierge is bustling with people usually with non resident guests so you may need to be patient. Overall though service is efficient, staff are friendly and English is widely spoken. Room rates probably reflect a premium for the location and convenience.

Granvia Kyoto, Japan

Excellent location above railway station with Shinkansen (high speed trains) and local rail lines plus local buses and tourist info offices close by. Underneath and alongside the railway station is a large shopping mall with shops, supermarkets and excellent food outlets.
Large room with comfortable large beds, quiet. Tasteful and efficient functional fittings with ample electric plugs and lights switches in logical places. We were travelling with our eleven year old son and a third bed fitted easily into the space.
Good bath and fantastic shower with additional side nozzles. Best EVER. Heated panels above bathroom mirrors to stop misting. Twin bathroom basins. Toilets fantastic. Electrically operated, auto flushing, auto seat lifting on approach and lowering when not in use. Warmed toilet seat. Variety of sprays from beneath with variable pressures, intensity and direction.
Even a padded seat in the elevator for tired passengers. Excellent free continuous internet facilities in room.
Excellent service. I dropped my spectacle case in the elevator and hotel staff matched the details on it although room booking was not in my name, and returned item to room.
Highly recommended.

i arrived at hotel around midnight because flight delayed for some hours but still welcomed by attentive staffs at lobby, ready to help with luggage. I reserved deluxe room and was not disappointed, my room was really big with modern facilities accompanying with big window, so i could see the whole city whole day & whole night. They offered some free fruits as well. I stayed here only 2 nights but everything were perfect, i did like to get up the Bar to get some seasonal drink and some Japanese wine. Hotel owned some nice restaurant that i did not have to get out to look for others but if you would like to find something special restaurant, ask for staffs, they would like to give some ways to get these.

Room Tip: they have suite seasonal room bigger than my deluxe room but both of these room were fabulous

My wife & I recently stayed for 5 nights in a room on the 12th floor with views over the railway lines on the southern side of the building.

Pros:
• the room is spacious
• comfortable king-sized bed & pillows
• convenient location for travel around Kyoto & beyond
• convenient access to cafes, restaurants & shopping both in the Kyoto Station & the nearby underground PORTA mall
• staff friendly & very efficient
• good range of toiletries, toothbrushes, combs, disposable razors etc.

Cons:
• room furnishings, especially carpet, looking a bit tired
• almost continual chimes (indicating arriving trains) from the station platforms can be intrusive
• buffet breakfast relatively expensive at approx. $AUD30 per head, and the hot Western food was only lukewarm the one time we ate in the hotel
• only 3 or 4 English-language TV channels available & reception is not very good
• shower over the bath, while common in Japanese hotels, is not the best bathroom option for older guests such as us
• tea, coffee & milk only provided on first day

Despite the Cons, we would happily stay at the Granvia Hotel again simply for the degree of comfort it offers & the convenience of its location.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the Kyoto Tower so as to avoid the incessant chimes from the Kyoto Sta...
