Some people spent million dollars to buy a view; I spent a few hundred dollars to buy an “experience”. This was the major reason I spent one night in this deluxe hotel. It was always hard to reserve a room at the Kyoto Station area at the peak season unless you make a reservation very early. I usually stayed far away to meet my budget. When I looked at this hotel every time at the station building, I told myself that I must try at least once to stay here so as to enjoy more time for all the facilities in the building.
So I did for my last visit to Kyoto and managed to have the last night to stay here before I left to Tokyo the next day. My travel agent tried four times to book for different weeks and I got four different rates, every one was higher than the other… Well, only once for one night, I took one option for a room with double bed and without breakfast.
It was a very busy hotel. Architecturally it was part of the JR Kyoto Station Building;
so close to the JR train station, with direct access to/from the Kansai International Airport,and the Kyoto bus terminal was just outside of the building, with lines of taxi next to it.
It was also connected with the underground subway and the underground shopping mall. At the other end of the Station Building, there was the lovely Isetan, one of Japan’s top department store. The Kyoto Theatre and a small museum were just next door…The “prime “ location really gives this hotel a lot of blessings.
The room I stayed was in standard size and comfortable. Bathroom was just like many other 4-5 star hotels. Guest can enjoy good quality shampoo product, body soap, makeup remover etc.
Of course, you got sleeper and pajama, complimentary newspaper; and lots of choice of wine in the mini bar. (They were thoughtfully displayed in the “drawer”.) Everything is nicely organized, clean and neat. How about the view from the window? Nothing exciting, lots of trains were staying there. Fortunately, it was not noisy.
I spent an extra 2200yens (I think the price this year could be more) for the buffet breakfast. There were lots of food to choose from, but not too impressive. Many were very filling stuff and you need a big stomach to make your money worth. The restaurant was very crowded…
Anyway, I enjoyed this experience as it helped me to save time and I was able to catch the last minute running around the building doing things I wanted to do before I got on the train to go to Tokyo.
