“Excellent Location, Service and at a Great Price!”
Reviewed September 8, 2008

Fantasic hotel. Would recommend this without any hesitation to those who want to go to Kyoto and see the city. Empeccably clean as the hotel has just recently opened, good service and at a fantastic price (i payed on JPY 7k per night!!).

Location wise, it is excellent and only <10min walk west from Shijyo metro station.

If only othet hotels in Japan were as good and as reasonably priced as this one.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this great hotel for 2 nights in June. I was thinking of staying at a rokan but the ones that were in our price range were already booked up (advice: book early!) so i searched around for a hotel and found this one on tripadvisor. I booked through Agoda.com and the price was very decent -- less than $140USD a night.

The hotel is not hard to find at all. When you get to Kyoto station, take the Karasuma line two stops north to Karasuma-Shijo Station. From Shijo station get out of Exit 2 and walk left past Citibank. You will pass Holly's Cafe, Lawsons and the hotel is right next to a 24hr supermarket. Its right across from Hotel Oak. Prob about a 10 min walk or less from the station.

It just opened in March so it is clean and new. Check-in was a breeze and we got a room on the 12th floor. The rooms are a bit on the small size but if you're in Kyoto, i doubt you'll be staying in the room anyways so it's not a big deal. The bed however was a queen size and VERY comfortable! They even foam pillows - a great touch. The bathroom was a very decent size for Japan with separate tub and seat warming toilet.

The desk was very helpful and if you ask them, they will help you plan a route for all the sites you want to visit.

We got a 2 day unlimited transportation pass for 2,000Yen which is about $20 and was totally worth it. We took the bus everywhere which after some studying, is pretty easy to navigate.

The hotel is very near Nijo Castle and Nishiki Market. Nishiki is walking distance -- about 20 mins from hotel past Shijo station and is def worth a look. It is only open till 6pm so go early!

The hotel runs along Shoji-dori and just walking down towards downtown has a lot of great window shopping and fun things to see.

For sightseeing, we used the Lonely Planet guide walking tour and it was awesome. I highly recommend it.

I recommend staying at MyStays!! I hope this was helpful!

I agree with the previous review, with a few additional notes.
Originally, I thought it was difficult to find because it is newer, relatively small, minimal signage, and not real close to any JR lines. (A good location, just hard to find.) I later found that bus #26 will get you within a few steps of the entrance. Also, it is just across a small street from a grocery store for meal/snack options.

Pillows were nice (both traditional and memory foam contour), the bed firm, the room itself on the small side.

The staff was very helpful. Every time I was at the desk 1 of the 2 staff members spoke English.

We paid less than the previous post maybe that's why I rated it a five. (Please note this was the only hotel I stayed at in the country, so I don't have anything else to compare it.)

I was begining to loose hope about a couple of months before travelling to Kyoto when I realised that there was no availability left whatsoever in any hotels.

Luckily, I found this hotel, and the only reason why there was availability is because they had not opened yet, they were to open just a couple of weeks before our arrival, so, this is the first review on it.

We were very pleased with this accommodation, it was located in the centre of Kyoto, a couple of subway stops north of the station.

The building is obviously brand new so are all the rooms and facilities. It was reasonably sized and furnished in western style. The room had a bed, one night table, a little sofa, a desk, an office chair, a flat screen tv (only Japanse channels) a little fridge (empty) and tea making facilities. The bed was king sized and had two different types of pillows.

There were also some complimentary night shirts and slippers. There was not a wardrobe, just some hooks on the wall with hangers, not ideal if you are staying for a long time.

The bathroom was obviously new with one of those fancy toilet seats with bidet buttons and some complimentary toiletries were provided although there were more available in reception.

The hotel had a coin operated laundry in the ground floor, wireless internet access in every room, and a computer with internet access in the lobby free of charge for the guests although it was not possible to print from there.

We paid 18,000 yen per night for the two of us (about £90, $180 USD), which is excellent compared to the cost of accommodation in Kyoto.
