While walking along Shijo Dori I happen to pass this small noodle shop. No seats, just locals standing and eating what looked like delicious noodles. I didn't hesitate to enter and try this very local place. Although we speak japanese, it was not needed as the menu is very short: you select the kind of noodle (soba or udon, and the lady shows you both) and which flavor you want (beef, tempura, etc.). A quick bite that is delicious and very cheap (300 to 800 Yen per serving)
