Description: Mouriya store was established in 1885 as a fresh meat store in the place where the Honten Restaurant is located presently. The business has been developed and now it is the restaurant that serves Kobe Beef. Our boast of the restaurants is superlative quality of beef that has been strictly selected without making a compromise; we have learned how important the sincerity is through the history of 120 years of business. Therefore, I usually recommend customers to eat the first bite by sprinkling of Ako’s salt to know how good the beef is. “Happy comfortableness for the customers who visit the restaurant for the first time, and veritable contentment for the customers who have repeatedly visited the restaurant” is the motto of our restaurants and the owner and staffs wish to serve customers the highest quality food possible; as it is our great pleasure to see our customers enjoy having steaks. There are 15 seats in the first floor, 18 seats in the second floor, and 13 seats on the third floor, total 51 seats in the Honten Restaurant. They are divided into the no smoking floors and the smoking floor. Sannomiya Restaurant and Royal Restaurant are located of 30 seconds on foot from the Hoten Restaurant and each has its features. Please visit Honten Restaurant by all means when you feel like dining in a snug steak house in the atmosphere of old days.

This restaurant came highly recommended by the hotel's concierge. There are three related restaurants adjacent to each other, with this being the middle-priced one. It's joked that the higher-priced one requires you to re-mortgage the house in order to afford the meal. But this one is a lot of fun. You choose one of three different cuts (sirloin, tenderloin, and one other), one of several different types of beef (special Kobe, Kobe, and others), the size of the cut, and a full meal with soup/salad/rice/dessert/coffee or just the beef with vegetables. The price ranges from ~$50 for the non-Kobe beef with vegetables to ~$150 for the largest cut of special Kobe beef accompanied by the whole meal. And then the chef prepares everything in front of you. It's like sitting at a bar except that it's the chef right there, chopping and grilling things, one-on-one with you until your meal is done. Then you take a piece of Kobe beef and dip it in the salt or the pepper or one of two sauces, and it's a delight! Highly recommended. This is a delightful way of experiencing true Kobe beef without breaking the bank altogether. And if you share with someone, you'll be able to compare the non-Kobe to the Kobe or special Kobe beef. The chef did exactly that for us, splitting the cuts among us so, so that each of us got to taste the different cuts and prepared to way we wanted (i.e., medium rare vs. well done, etc.). And you may find, as we did, that the non-Kobe beef was tastier than the special Kobe beef (sounds heretical, but that's what we concluded). The meal is quick too, so you can be in and out in an hour if you want. They also have a good selection of beer, wine, and spirits to accompany the meal. If you have your hotel concierge make the reservation (as the Portopia did for us) then you each get a complimentary draft beer or glass of wine to start. The team speak English well so there is no problem communicating what you want or finding out what the different sauces and vegetables are.

We were looking to have Kobe beef and not break the bank. Our experience was great. There were three of us and we chose three different cuts. The chef works on a grill right in front of us, cooking your beef and some veggies. You get to see your meat cuts before they are cooked.

The chef was friendly and helpful, he also allowed us to share each cut which was great fun. He cooked the meal over time so we were there for a very nice chat.

The restaurant is actually called Mauriya. Evidently there are three branches very near to eachother. The one we were at is written, MOPR, except the R is backwards, Russian apparently. We were at the one on the first floor.

Our experience was great! The Kobe beef really was terrific! I can still taste it!

My friend and husband were really excited about going all the way from Kyoto to have Kobe beef. It was all my friend could think about for this trip and he spent a lot of time doing research as to where to eat Kobe Beef and found this place.Since I wanted to go to Arima Onsen to enjoy the mineral bath, I suggested having lunch instead of dinner so that we can relax and not rush down. We were the first ones at the restaurant, sharp at 11.30 am . The waitress couldnt speak English well but with the English menu, we ordered 200 gm of Kobe beef , medium rare and another two of their specialities, sirlion and rump. One serving of 100gm of Kobe beef cost 8500 yen .The food came and we were excited with the portions, looks good .But..it didnt melt in the mouth, it was not tender. In fact, my piece, was so tough, I couldnt bite through, I had to chew, spit it out and literally much to my chagrin, tried to pull it . Finally, I asked for the knife to cut the piece. Totally not what I expected.i have eaten Kobe beef in Tokyu and back home, and definitely this is a disappointment. The guys too didnt find it great.. Not satisfied, we went to somewhere else for dinner later after Arima Onsen. Price was half and definitely more tender but cooked traditional sukiyaki style.

What can I say??? I know it had good reviews here which is why we went but its overrated...

A great atmosphere with service to match. This is a top-of-the-line steakhouse with a matching wait staff that speak English. We ordered the A-5 sirloin and the assorted seafood. The beef was exceptional and the seafood left nothing to be desired. Great experience with no regrets, despite the price.

You can't go to Kobe and not have any beef. This is definitely the place to go, plus it is conveniently located next to the train station. We stayed in Osaka, and it was a quick trip to the restaurant. Although it was difficult to find because the name is spelled in Russian, once you realize that, you're golden.

The place can get pretty busy, so try to make reservations before if possible.

The chefs were very accommodating and explained everything that was going on. We had the regular sirloin and the Kobe sirloin to taste the difference. The chef explained the differences to us, and we ended up liking the regular sirloin better. Don't get me wrong, the Kobe beef was unbelievable, but we had our preference.

Lunch can run around $80-$100, but this is a once in a lifetime experience. All major credit cards are accepted as well.
