A wonderful day out exploring and worth taking the ropeway up to the top from near shin kobe station and then walk down the path way to the bottom again. Not the best if you have very young children who don't like to walk far. But with the view and the garden to explore along the way then that was a good distraction for my children.

My extended family took a day trip from Osaka to visit Kobe in Dec 2011. We had wanted to ride a rope-way - and found that the Kobe Ropeway was just next to the Shin Kobe station. So we took the Shinkasen from Osaka to Kobe; it was expensive but we wanted to do it for the experience.

The Kobe Ropeway brought us up to the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Garden. We took it up all the way to the top station and walked down to the middle station before taking down to the bottom station.

At the top, there was a gift shop as well as a Fragrance Museum. My family enjoyed the time there. The herbs and flowers along the way were also beautiful, eventhough it was off-season for some plants (eg the Lavender Garden).

Mid-way between the Top Station and the Middle Station is the Greenhouse, which is well worth the visit. There were many beautiful flowers and plants in the Greenhouse. There was also a herbal foot onsen there. Do remember to bring towels to dry your feet after soaking in the onsen. But if you forget to do so, there are towels on sale (on rent?) for about 100 yen a piece.

All in all, my family enjoyed the visit to the Kobe Nunobiki Herb Garden.

If it's a clear day the views of Kobe can be spectacular. Take the rope way to the to the top or half way. We went straight to the top had lunch and walked down to the half way point and caught the rope way the rest of the way down. The herb garden has a museum and restaurant at the top and a few shops. Restaurant is great for the health conscious. Fresh herbs, vegetable salads, tofu, fish and other dishes are on the menu. This restaurant is a buffet, so eat your fill. After lunch stroll down the mountain along a foot path where you can see herbs, vegetable, flowers and other plants. Placards help you identify the different herbs and plants you see along the way. Very interesting trip, the flower gardens are just beautiful to see.

The herb gardens and greenhouse are pretty and you'll get a nice view of Kobe, but it's expensive. It was nice but I'm not sure if I'd go again considering the cost.
