This is a mid-sized zoo that's located near the Hankyu line that runs between Nishinomiya and Kobe. It was walking distance from the Oji Zoo station there and quite well kept up. Unlike the Ueno Zoo, which is in the middle of a zoo (called Ueno, Tokyo), Oji's in a beautiful suburban part of Kobe and not expensive at all. There were many wonderful exhibits there and you can spend 2-3 unhastled hours looking at the beautiful flora & fauna. They have good collections of Asian and Australian species in particular. I made a Korean friend there and we both agreed the Oji Dobutsuen's well worth visiting.
