An interesting strip of area filled with colonial history. Only a 10 minute walk (although uphill) from Kobe Sannomiya Station, this area had retained its rich history by maintaining the facade of the old buildings whilst renovating the interior into interesting museum spaces, and outdoor wedding venues.

Old foreign residence area. A nice area to visit but very tiring to walk up slope. Most of the houses need admission ticket. You may just choose a few to enter. Worth a visit if you like old buildings. Famous baked tart and ice cream is available on the way out from the top. There are some houses along the main street, one of them is the famous Starbucks.

Located close to Herb Garden; about ten minutes by foot from the former. Nothing much to see.. just houses from the older times occupied by westerners. Each house requires a entry fee.

Worth a skip! Unless you want to walk to shops where they sell Kōbe limited souvenirs.

Worth a wander around as a foreign tourist. However, as with a lot of history in Japan you need to read about it before you go because without a guide there isn't much other than a few sentences that provide info in English. We didn't pay to go into the properties, as we had researched just wandered down the street and looked at the key ones.

We went Ijinkan-dori-street by taxi. It would be cheaper depending on how many you are. It was the minimam fate till there.

Uroko no Ie House was our main object, so we bought the middle entrance fee among three kinds of fee types. It includes the fee of Uroko no Ie House.

We could enjoy looking around the whole city of kobe from Uroko no Ie House, and also there were some pictures exhibited inside the House.

We really enjoyed sight seeing in Kobe.

It takes about 15 minutes on foot from Sannomiya station in Kobe. I keep walking to the Starbucks kitano Ijinkan to stop by here to drink a cup of coffee after that I find the little hill and then I reach the "Ijinkan" (former residences of early foreign settlers), Kitano area. It used to be the town where the people who came from oversea and they thought about their countries from the hill viewing the sea. I can't enter Kobe Kitano museum because of arrived at 5:50. It open 9:00am - 6:00pm (Entrance: Till 5:45pm) and closed: First Tuesday of June and February (If it is bank holiday, it will be the following day.) The entrance fee is 500yen.

A collection of restored houses / museums with some interesting objects. Good for taking some photos but definitely overpriced. Not worth the trouble unless you happen to be in the neighborhood and have some time to kill; note also that you can save some money by buying combined tickets for some of the houses.
