Ryokan Sansui Hiroshima
Ranked #40 of 121 Hotels / Ryokan in Hiroshima
Reviewed May 25, 2012

My wife & I only stayed a night here but found the host very helpful and friendly. Like many reviewers have noted, her English is limited but enough to help you understand how to get around Hiroshima or Miyajima and places to eat.

There's no ensuite bathroom but there're shared toilets on the same floor as the rooms. The bath is downstairs. The place is spotless and our room have 2 folded up futons on tatami mats. It's very simple Japanese style. The stairs up to the rooms are quite steep, so if your knees are not good, perhaps something to consider.

The location of the ryokan is good. The tram (streetcar as they call it in Hiroshima) stop is only a couple of minutes walk away and the trams are very frequent, going either to Hiroshima dome, station, town (Hondori street) or to Miyajima (you should really change to a train mid-way as the tram will take more time, but that's another story).

Coming from Hiroshima station, it's one tram ride which takes about 20 minutes, from memory. From the ryokan, it is about 10-15 minutes easy walk to the Peace Park and the museum. From there you can make your way to the Atomic Dome, which is at the other end of the Peace Park.

There are food places near the ryokan but we didn't end up eating near there.

Overall, a basic traditional ryokan experience at an affordable price.

We stayed just one night in March 2012 but could easily have stayed a few more. Really liked this Ryokan, especially the Owners, very friendly, kind and helpful people.
The room was a good size, spotlessly clean, has tatami and futon bedding, tv, tea-making facilities etc. All in all very comfortable. Wifi also in the room.
Shared bathroom with japanese tub for soaking in at night.
The Lady who runs the Ryokan has all info needed for a day trip to Miyajima (highly recommended!!) and for visiting Hiroshima itself.
Sansui Ryokan is less than a 2min walk from the tram so its very easy to get there directly from the train station (Line 2). You can also continue on from their tram stop to get the JR Train to Miyajima, just ask the Lady.
Very good bikes for rent at the Ryokan, an excellent way to see Hiroshima in one day.
Stop by La Cordobesa tapas bar on the corner, beside the tram lime, for a chat with some very friendly locals!!
Great price for a stay at a ryokan and we will definitely stay there again if in Hiroshima in the future.

Located in a residental area next to a river and close to a tram stop it's an idea place if you stay 2-3 nights to explore the city. There is a direct tram connection (20-25 minute ride) to Hiroshima JR station and direct tram to the ferry too.
I suggest to rent a bicycle -available at the Ryokan- to visit the other sights.
Owner is very helpful but has limited english.
There is a big bathtub but not the classic onset experience. Basic, clean tatami room.
The only drawback was that japanese breakfast offered on the website for additional cost was unavailable, I was sent to 7-11 to eat :(

This ryokan is about 25 mins walk from the Peace Park and Atomic Dome. It is also very close to the local tram line. I got a taxi from Hiroshima station, and that cost around 1200 yen. If you have luggage, this is probably your best option for getting here.

It is VERY clean and tidy and the room was a good size for me and would have been fine for a couple. The rooms are up a steep flight of stairs, so if you have any sort of mobility problems, this may not be the place for you. The owner has limited english, but is very nice and helpful. I stayed two nights and would be happy to go back. No internet available here, although I am not sure about wireless connection.

The local food speciality (okonomyaki) is well worth trying!!! Miyajima is also an easy day trip via the tram service and I would recommend that as a trip from Hiroshima.

My wife and I were travelling around Japan for 2 weeks and we stayed here for 2 nights and this place is fantastic. The rooms and facilities are spotless, and as all other mention the owner is amazing – even with limited English she gave us maps and directions for both our days and everything was so easy. Hiroshima is a very walkable city and the location of this place is great.

The directions of how to get to the Ryokan on the tram from Hiroshima Staion are really good and it is very easy, even with our luggage. The Peace Park and A-bomb dome are within a pleasant stroll. The following day the owner also explained about getting to Miyajima and we had a JR rail pass, this is also extremely easy from this Ryokan with the tram and rail lines down to the ferry terminal.

All in all, we would both very happily advise friends and family to stay here. Clean, affordable, great location and wonderful host.

The owner is a sweet, genuine lady that speaks little English but is still able to explain you enogh about the area&city. She takes picture of the guests, which she hangs by the stairs. You can have free coffee&tea in the kitchen and keep some food&drinks in the fridge. We had our own little breakfast here. Room was Japanese style and clean with air-conditioning.

I wanted my son to have an authentic japanese experience. We spent a night at Ryokan Sansui, run by a very lovely lady. She really did everything to make our stay a pleasant one. The location is very convenient, just around the corner from a tram station Koamicho, tram line 2, Easy access from Hiroshima station. Same tram line runs all the way to the Miyajima ferrys. The Ryokan in at walking distance from Peace Memorial Park and the A-bomb Dome.

The Ryokan is easy to find. Look for the house with lots and lots of beautiful flowers . As in all japanese house you take off your shoes at the entrance. A wall full of pictures of satisfied guests speaks volumes. My little son was most impressed by the old samurai swords in the dining room. Our room was clean and cosy. Real, genuine futon floor. Air conditioning. Small table and a TV. Complimentary green tea. Shared bathroom was very clean. Affordable and genuine experience. Very lovely lady.
