“Not much but worth seeing”

There's not much to see here just a lonely plaque but it's well worth reading and it's only about 80 metres around the corner from the Atomic Bomb Dome. When you stand there and think about what happened there all those years ago it makes you stop and think 6th Aug 1945 thousands of people lost their lives and the bomb was detonated 600 metres above this spot.

This is a interesting place to visit but there is not much here. This is a must to visit when you go to Hiroshima because of what it represents. You will spend perhaps a half hour here.

Our local guide made this seemingly nondescript stop very interesting. First, visitors leave water bottles at the monument because the survivors wanted water more than anything -- for relief from the heat and scorched conditions. Second the building just behind the monument is a doctor's office owned by the same family as in 1945. Then owner was away from the city on August 6 and returned to the destruction and offered assistance to survivors. A small but powerful stop recommended on any tour of Hiroshima.

Well the bomb exploded in the air above this spot, but still you get the point. Humbling to be at the epicenter of something so historical although terrible.

We walked right by this spot the night before and had no clue that we were walking by 'ground zero'. There's a neat restaurant just down the street, it's called Nagata-ya and I recommend stopping there.
