The Peace Museum and the gardens are a must see and do when in Hiroshima.. A real eye opener and a million reasons why man must make sure this never happens again. The destruction and loss of life was unbelievable

This is was a very unique experience. The displays are very moving and really gives you a glimpse of the horrors that have taken place like no movie or photo can, such as clothes remains, warped glass, walls with a person's silhouette and the story of Sadako Sasaki. It should be a must stop on your Japan list even if traveling to Japan for a short time.

I agree with other reviewers in planning half a day here and spending the other half of the day somewhere much happier. The museum's exhibits are presented in a tactful way, but still it's impossible to avoid feeling sick after a while. I think it's especially important to bring children here so they better understand the horrors of war. So often we become neutralized to violence because we see it on televison in footage, but are never forced to face the fear of war ourselves. This museum forces us to temporarily leave our happy comfort zone. Bring tissue and don't be afraid to cry.

I prefer going to the A-dome just before the dawn. Viewing the A-dome under purpleish sky feels cold and deadly in the silent environment surrounding. One can feel the fear in this condition under the monument. Otherwise, you cannot imagine the damage of Hiroshima in current modernised city.

Visiting this museum will ruin your day. I suggest going in the afternoon and then going directly to a karaoke bar to sing your troubles away. The story of the A-bomb is presented in a politically neutral and objective way which is riviting in its factual recount of the events. Plan to spend at least 3 hours to take in everything and definately take one of the audioguides for insight into the exhibits. If you are coming directly from the JR station get a tram, or prepare for a substantial walk.
