Owner description: Rebuilt following its destruction by the atomic bomb, this building houses an excellent museum that traces Hiroshima’s history, describes the architecture and other aspects of castles in Japan and, through videos, explains the construction of this castle.

The castle is an impressive 'very Japanese' timber structure and definitely worth a look. It offers a lovely view of Hiroshima from the top, particularly at sunset.

This castle was completely destroyed during WW II and has been rebuilt as a museum. There is a nice observatory from the top of the castle but you have to climb five floors to the top.

I will admit that we did visit this site at the start of the new Year and there were mant people around - the disappointing this was that this is the first and only tourist site in Japan that we have visited (have visited a number of sites as this was our 2nd trip to Japan) where rubbish was everywhere and bins were overflowing. We spent about 2 mins at this site and left. the castle at Osaka is much more impressive.

As the bomb struck Hiroshima durring the second world war, not far from the castle, of course this historic building was wiped out. It has though been rebuilt with an authentic exterior, but a mor modern interior. If you've done the "atomic bomb" on the most of your day then you can fit this castle in on the remainder of your day.

It was very cold the day we went but I'd recommend at least walking around the grounds. The castle has a small admission charge but it's worth a quick visit.
