Maybe im judging this harshly as we have just come from a great stay at the Kyoto Granvia but I intensely dislike this hotel and I still have another night here to endure.
Firstly, we arrived at 12.50pm. Check in is 1pm but I didnt expect to be barked at by some woman that thought my lack of japanese meant she had to speak louder to tell me to go away. I get it, we were 10mins early, we'll go sit in the lobby till 1pm.
The room, although recently refurbished, are small but they seemed to have kept the out dated fake wood painted oversized furniture. Oh and not very sound proof, as I type this review i hear the people in the room next to us just dropped their soap while having a shower.
The elevators, apparently there are 4 but Ive only seen 2 working at any one time.
The bathroom... oh the bathroom, let me list the ways that I hate you. Firstly its tiny, pre fabricated glossy formica walls and fake tiled floors and resembles the bathrooms you get in caravans/motor homes or cabins. Secondly, the ceiling is very low for some weird reason. Im 5ft 10, hubby is 6ft and when washing your hair, your hands hit the ceiling. WTF! Also, the shower head is not western friendlly so you are stooping so you can rinse your hair.
And lastly, we just endured the buffet breakfast at Vent Vern. Despite lots of empty seats, we are forced to wait outside with about another eight people. No idea why, I stood there and counted 12 free tables and there could have been more.
For toast, you have to stand by a family kitchen two piece toaster and wait while you cook your toast twice to get the slightlest browning. Yep, a major hotel in the city offers a home toaster for the buffet crowd. The food is ok/average. Thats all I can say about it but looking around the room I was reminded of a country trip (for the aussies) to Albury and was reminded of a highway cafeteria/food stop. When I returned to our seat, I said to hubby, "Tomorrow, why dont we....." and he answered. "McDondalds!". This hotel wont see any more of our money because there are other, if not better options.
Location wise, yes this hotel has it to the street cars and station - but there are also other hotels nearby that offer the same thing.
