We loved this park and spent quite a bit of time wandering through it. It contains most of the memorials to the A-Bomb and is beautifully kept.

This is a pretty and peaceful park for memorializing the loss of life in Hiroshima. You can walk through the park in 30 minutes and attend the museum either before or after.

The world first Atomic disaster city. Everyone knows about the city, the history and the effect to mankind. Its amazing how Japan has risen from ashes especially this particular city. We were amazed the minute that we step out of Hiroshima station knowing that the city had suffer tremendous suffering.

The Peace Memorial park is not that far from Hiroshima station. Its about 10-15 minutes tram ride. From Hiroshima station take south exit (if i was not mistaken - there's a sign to the Peace Memorial park) and then take tram line 2 or 6 to Genbaku-Domu mae station. The ride only cost about 150 yen.

The park consists of several monuments including the A-Bomb Dome. Don't forget to go to the Hall of Remembrance (felt like in a fortress of solitude!!)

The museum is amazing.

We only make a day trip to Hiroshima (we were staying at Kyoto), traveling there using JR Pass (Shikansen change at Shin-Osaka station - better to reserve the seats) (JR Pass from Kyoto to Shin osaka - we took Hikari train, and from Shin Osaka - we took Sakura train). the journey takes about 3 hours.

Note : Change of train From Kyoto at Shin Osaka to Hiroshima is about 15 minutes, so you have to know which train and platform.

There are so many memorials in this park that it starts to bring home the enormity of the bombing of Hiroshima. I could not bring myself to photograph the mound holding the ashes of those cremated, but we did take up the invitation to say a prayer and ring the Peace Bell. We visited the memorial to the Koreans who died as slave labourers, and the little monument to the gas company workers just across river from the park. Perhaps these helped sum it all up.

I've read lots of history, I've been close enough to touch the airplane that dropped the bomb but nothing prepared me for the stark and beautiful visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The first site you'll see is the Atomic Bomb Dome, a building that left to remind us all about the power of the bomb. The bomb actually exploded 600 meters above and 160 meters to the southeast of the Dome.

The Children's Peace Memorial choked me up.

The Peace Bells are the only noise that breaks the silence.

If you get anywhere near Hiroshima, visit the Park and then go to the Museum.
