“Winter Fun in Sapporo”

This hotel is very good. The location is great. A bit out of town, but next to a park. We enjoyed playing in the snow and not having far to go to get warm again. The reastaurant area had a beautiful view of the snow.
The Teppanyaki restaurant is very expensive. The service was immaculate, but the food did seem overpriced.
The only downfall was that we requested Non-Smoking. There were ashtrays in the room, and of course it stunk. The place was full so moving was not an option. I caould not be sure if they actually had any Non-Smoking rooms or not...

Made a booking over the internet. When checking-in all booking details were wrong. Staff put my young children (9 and 2) in another floor. When finally got the correct family room after 2 room changes staff charged extra for the 1st room change. Paid an extra 10,000 Yen for 3 nights. Was in no mood to argue with the staff at 6am with 2 sleepy children in tow.

When asking for help to arrange for transport to airport, staff recommended no less than 3 times for me to take a JR train together with my 7 pieces of luggage with a toddler.

We stayed here during the start of the Yuki Matsuri (Snow Festival) and found a great deal online compared to what you would normally pay. I stayed with my partner but due to full occupancy we could only get a twin room- at least they provided a non-smoking floor. Check in was good with staff who speak fair English- as long as your language is simple and don't ask for too much you won't have a problem. They were polite and always greeted us with an 'irasshaimase' and a bow! They can exchange foreign currency for you but be prepared to be gouged.
The room we had was quite cramped- but we were not intending to stay in there all day anyway. It was a challenge keeping my luggage out of the way (skis, boots and poles incluuded) At least it was clean and all amenities replaced in a timely manner. There was only one English TV channel available but there is only so much BBC I can handle in one sitting. The restaurants looked nice but then I saw the price tag.....no thanks....
The free shuttle bus will take you to all the major areas of Sapporo- namely Odori Park and Susukino. However it is quite infrequent and unreliable. I found it more convenient paying 800 yen for a day pass for a train so we can hop between Odori park, Susukino and Nakajima Park whenever we liked. Just remember the trains stop at midnight so you may need to prepare yourself for a long cold walk home.
Check out was OK- we asked twice for help with our large bags (remember the skis?) but they only showed up when our airport transfer was about to leave! A local call in our room was only about 25c which was a nice change from the $1 you would get at a hotel in Oz. The hotel can arrange shuttle transfers to the New Chitose Airport for 1000yen per person which I thought was reasonable.
Overall it was a good stay- but being the snow festival, I wasn't really in the room/ hotel much except to shower, sleep and sip green tea!

The rooms are small but clean. The service is very professional. And the location is great for kids. There is a big park behind the hotel with a pond and ducks and lots of trails. A short walk through the park takes you to the subway station and the snow festival site of Suskino and Odori are two or three subway stops away. There is also a childrens center just off the park and right outside the subway station. They had an ice slide and snowball and other activites set up for kids. My son was welcomed into the playing as were some other American and Australian kids. We stayed in a room overlooking the park on a non-smoking floor. I can't imagine how bad the smoking rooms must smell like because the rooms are pretty small. The Kirin beer garden is right across the park. The beer garden has a great yakiniku type dinner called the Ghengis Khan and bottomless drinks for a decent price. The hotel offers a breakfast buffet that is more than ample. Room service is expensive but the minibar prices are reasonable. I made the reservation from the Accor hotel website and there was no prepayment required. This made me a little nervous becuase I was stying over the 3 busiest days of the Snow Festival, but there was no need for my apprehension. Overall it was a very pleasant stay and if we go to Sapporo again I will most likley stay there again. Great service and a good price in a good location.

A great hotel with a very accommodating and friendly staff. The location near Nakajima Park isuiet, but the free shuttle makes it easy to get to places such as Odori Park, the Sussikino entertainment area and the Sapporo JR Station.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable. One suggestion would be to keep the window drapes closed, otherwise it may get too warm in the room, and in the winter, the air conditioning system is shut down.

This is the first Novotel Hotel I have been disappointed with. I am a loyal follower of Accor group Hotels (Manily Sofitel and Novotel brands). The lack of English by the Reception staff, the extremely small room, the condition of the room, lack of a reasonable restaurant for dinner and the location all led to a disappointing stay. Due to the French Restaurant having a private function on, we were forced to order Room Service for dinner - there is no room service menu - we were offered Corn Soup!!!. The smallest bowl of soup was delivered to our room at a fee of US$8 per person - there must have been 3 mouthfuls per bowl. - Fortunately our stay was for one night only.
