Craft beer is a relatively new thing in Japan, and although most big cities here have at least one or two very good bars for domestic brands, places offering decent brews from foreign countries are few and far between. That's where Mugishutei comes in -- not only can you enjoy unique Ezo Brand beer (brewed in conjunction with Rogue in the States), but also a massive selection of beers from nearly every country imaginable. They have a rotation of about 5 on-tap beers, but the bottled selection is really what impressed me the most. I felt like a little Christmas in May, and it was no problem... they had a few holiday-themed brews available. Other members of our party wanted something light, or something more wine-tasting, and the helpful bartender gave us really good advice in English. The best part of our visit happened around 10 at night -- Phred, the owner, showed up and chatted with us for a long time, answering our questions and accepting the praise we heaped onto him! (even later in the evening, he also took two of us around to some cool little bars / seafood joints... but I don't think that comes standard with every bottle, of course)
Overall, Mugishutei is a must-visit for folks living in Japan, as well as tourists visiting Sapporo from abroad. For those of us living in Japan, and missing microbrews from home, this bar offers a great opportunity to try brands we haven't mad in awhile -- and then, conveniently, we can order them by the bottle to be shipped home! Those of us in our party who were visiting from the States were also impressed by the depth and variety of the bottled beer selection, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their evening.
(one thing to note is that Mugishutei does charge a 900yen "charm charge", or seating fee... but a quick hunt on the internet yields a way to waive that fee, if you're so inclined)
